                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par8">Dear Sir</p>
                <p xml:id="par9">It was an unspeakable pleasure to me to see <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l6"/>Hand of my old Acquaintance, &amp; I wish in return I <lb xml:id="l7"/>could send something considerable, to give you a pleasure, <lb xml:id="l8"/>relating to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> Great Man you write <choice><abbr>ab<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>about</expan></choice>: But I am <lb xml:id="l9"/>so unhappy as to find very little under <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>.</abbr><expan>Sir</expan></choice> Isaac's own <lb xml:id="l10"/>hand, of what past between Him &amp; my Father.</p>
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par10">I guess, by a small Book I find amongst my Fathers pa<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l11"/>pers <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> he had a design to collect into one all <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> he had <lb xml:id="l12"/>of <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>.</abbr><expan>Sir</expan></choice> Isaac's writing; But he went no farther than <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l13"/>transcribing three short <choice><abbr>Lett<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi></abbr><expan>Letters</expan></choice> he received from Him <lb xml:id="l14"/>&amp; a Common Place of His part of <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi>.</abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> I find under <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>.</abbr><expan>Sir</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l15"/>Isaac's own hand, <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> rest together with <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> originals of <lb xml:id="l16"/>those three <choice><abbr>Lett<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi></abbr><expan>Letters</expan></choice>, is lost: Besides those transcribed <lb xml:id="l17"/><choice><abbr>Lett<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi></abbr><expan>Letters</expan></choice> and <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Common place, I can meet <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi>.</abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> nothing <lb xml:id="l18"/>but four or five <choice><abbr>Lett<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi></abbr><expan>Letters</expan></choice> under <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>.</abbr><expan>Sir</expan></choice> Isaac's own hand <lb xml:id="l19"/>very short, &amp; relating to Dividends &amp; Chamber Rent <lb xml:id="l20"/><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi>.</abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> he was so kind as to receive for my Father when at <lb xml:id="l21"/>Monmouth where he was most part of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> time he continu'd <lb xml:id="l22"/>Fellow. There being so little in these <choice><abbr>Lett<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi></abbr><expan>Letters</expan></choice> I do not now send them, but wait for your Commands, for whatever I <lb xml:id="l23"/>can meet with of This worthy Man, shall be at your Service.</p>
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par11"> My Father's Intimacy with Him came by meer Accident <pb xml:id="p003" n="3"/> My Fathers first Chamber-fellow being very disagreeable to him he <lb xml:id="l24"/>retired one day into <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> walks, where he found M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Newton solitary <lb xml:id="l25"/>&amp; dejected; Upon entering into discourse they found their cause <lb xml:id="l26"/>of <choice><abbr>Retirem<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Retirement</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> same, &amp; thereupon agreed to shake off their <lb xml:id="l27"/>present disorderly Companions &amp; Chum together, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi>.</abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> they did assoon <lb xml:id="l28"/>as conveniently they could &amp; so continued as long as My Father <lb xml:id="l29"/>staid at College.</p>
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par12">I have heard my Father often say that he has been a Witness to <lb xml:id="l30"/>what <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> World has so often heard of <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>.</abbr><expan>Sir</expan></choice> Isaac's forgetfullness of <lb xml:id="l31"/>his food, when intent upon His Studies; And of his Rising in a <lb xml:id="l32"/>pleasant manner <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi>.</abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> satisfaction of having found out some <lb xml:id="l33"/>Proposition; without any concern for, or seeming want of his Nights <lb xml:id="l34"/>sleep, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi>.</abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> he was sensible he had lost thereby.</p>
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par13">He was turning Grey, I think, at Thirty, and when my Father ob<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l35"/>served <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> to him as <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Effect of his deep attention of Mind; He <lb xml:id="l36"/>would jest <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Experim<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi>.</abbr><expan>Experiments</expan></choice> he made so often <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi>.</abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> Quick Silver as <lb xml:id="l37"/>if from thence he took so soon that Colour:</p>
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par14">He sometime suspected Himself to be inclining to a Consump<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l38"/>tion, &amp; <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Medicine He made use of was <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lucatellus Balsam <lb xml:id="l39"/><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi>.</abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> when he had compos'd Himself, He would now &amp; then melt <lb xml:id="l40"/>in Quantity <choice><abbr>ab<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> a <choice><abbr>Q<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>.</abbr><expan>Quarter</expan></choice> of a Pint &amp; so drink it.</p>
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par15">It is now Eight Years since my Fathers death in <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi>.</abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> time many <lb xml:id="l41"/>things my Father used to relate of Him are sliped out of my <lb xml:id="l42"/>Memory; but being mostly of such a Nature as what I have now <fw type="catch" place="bottomRight">mentioned</fw><pb xml:id="p004" n="4"/> I suspect would be of no Service could I recollect any more.</p>
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par16">But there is one thing upon <choice><abbr>Acc<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Account</expan></choice> of <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> not only my Father did but my <lb xml:id="l43"/>Self also shall always pay a peculiar Regard to His Memory; <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> was a <lb xml:id="l44"/>Charitable Benefaction, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi>.</abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> has privately pass'd from Him through <lb xml:id="l45"/>My Fathers &amp; since his Death through my own hands. We have been <lb xml:id="l46"/><choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Dispersers of many Dozens of Bibles sent by him for poor people, <lb xml:id="l47"/>&amp; I have now many by me sent from Him for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> same purpose; <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi>.</abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l48"/>as it shews <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> great regard he had to Religion, I cannot but desire <lb xml:id="l49"/><choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> by you it may be made publick to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> World.</p>
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par17">Dear Sir, my Thoughts dwell with wonderfull delight upon the <lb xml:id="l50"/>Memory of this Great, &amp; Good Man, and therefore I have troubled <lb xml:id="l51"/>you with so long a <choice><abbr>Lett<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>Letter</expan></choice>, which I now beg pardon for; and in hope <lb xml:id="l52"/>of hearing again soon from you conclude, with my Brothers <lb xml:id="l53"/>hearty Service &amp; respect to you.
