<p xml:id="par1">1 That religion &amp; Philosophy are to be preserved distinct. We are not <lb xml:id="l1"/>to introduce divine revelations into Philosophy, nor philosophical opinions into <lb xml:id="l2"/>religion.</p>
<p xml:id="par2"><del type="over">2</del><add place="over" indicator="no">3</add> Men are not to be deprived of communion without violating the conditions <lb xml:id="l3"/>upon which they were admitted into communion.</p>
<p xml:id="par3">2 That Religion &amp; polity <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">or the laws of God &amp; the laws of man</add> are to be kept distinct. We are not make the comman<lb xml:id="l4"/>dements of men a part of the laws of God</p>
<p xml:id="par4">4 The conditions or articles of communion are <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="cancelled">all</del></add> those which in the primitive <lb xml:id="l5"/>Church were taught the C<del type="cancelled">h</del>atechumeni <del type="strikethrough">in orde</del> in order to baptism &amp; imposition of <lb xml:id="l6"/>hand, viz<hi rend="superscript">t</hi> [to forsake the Devil &amp; all his works, <del type="cancelled">&amp;</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="no">to</add> abstein from the lusts of the <lb xml:id="l7"/>flesh, the lusts of the eye &amp; the pride] repentance &amp; abstinence from dead works, <lb xml:id="l8"/>&amp; a practical beleif in <del type="cancelled">God</del> one God <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">the father in</add> one Lord <del type="cancelled">&amp; the H</del> Iesus Christ &amp; in the Holy Ghost</p>
<p xml:id="par5"><del type="blockStrikethrough">5 By <del type="strikethrough">dead works</del> repentance &amp; abstinence from dead works we are to understand <lb xml:id="l9"/><add place="lineBeginning" indicator="no">j</add> the <choice><sic>forsking</sic><corr>forsaking</corr></choice> the Devil &amp; his works, that is, the worshipping fals Gods &amp; Idols &amp; all the <lb xml:id="l10"/>works accompanying such worship, &amp; 2<hi rend="superscript">dly</hi> abstin<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" extent="2" unit="chars"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">en</add>ce from the lusts of the flesh the <lb xml:id="l11"/>lusts of the eye &amp; the pride of life, that is from evil concupiscence, covetousness <lb xml:id="l12"/><del type="cancelled">ab</del> &amp; ambition.</del></p>
<p xml:id="par6">5 By dead works we are to understand Idolatry, inordinate lusts of the flesh, <lb xml:id="l13"/>covetousness &amp; ambition. We are to forsake the Devil &amp; his works that is fals gods &amp; <lb xml:id="l14"/>idols <del type="over">&amp;</del><add place="over" indicator="no">w</add>ith the works <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> accompany such worship <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">as being contrary to the love of God</add>: &amp; we are to refrain from <lb xml:id="l15"/>the lust of the flesh the lust of the eye &amp; the pride of life<del type="over">.</del><add place="over" indicator="no">,</add> <del type="strikethrough">For if a</del> that is from <lb xml:id="l16"/>inordinate desires of the flesh, &amp; from covetousness &amp; ambition [<del type="blockStrikethrough">ffor if any man love <lb xml:id="l17"/>the world the love of <del type="strikethrough">God</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">the father</add> is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of <lb xml:id="l18"/>the flesh, the lust of the eye &amp; the pride of life is not of the father but is <lb xml:id="l19"/>of the world &amp;c.</del>] as being contrary to the love of our neighbour. <add place="inline" indicator="no">And we are</add><lb xml:id="l20"/> <del type="strikethrough"><space dim="horizontal" extent="3" unit="chars"/>6 By</del> to beleive aright in one God <del type="strikethrough">the father</del> &amp; one <del type="strikethrough">Lord</del> Christ &amp; in the Holy Ghost <lb xml:id="l21"/>&amp; be baptized in their name &amp; to love our neighbour as our selves, &amp; being ad<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l22"/>mitted into <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">the</add> communion <del type="strikethrough">by imposit</del> of some particular Church by the <del type="strikethrough">impos</del> governours <lb xml:id="l23"/>thereof <del type="strikethrough"><gap reason="illgblDel" extent="1" unit="chars"/></del> upon these conditions, we are not to be deprived of that communion <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" extent="1" unit="chars"/></del> with<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l24"/>out breach of those conditions.</p>
<p xml:id="par7">6 By communion I understand a <del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="medium">p</unclear></del> fellowship in the worship of that Church so <lb xml:id="l25"/>as to joyn <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> them in their publick prayers praises thanksgivings &amp; in <del type="strikethrough">receivin</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="no">celebrating</add> <lb xml:id="l26"/>the Eucharist, &amp; by excommunication a deprivation of that communion. T</p>
<p xml:id="par8">7 This communion men are <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">to be</add> admitted into <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">or deprived of</add> by <del type="strikethrough">appro</del> Order of the board <lb xml:id="l27"/>of the governours of that Church &amp; the Order <del type="strikethrough">uses</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">is properly <choice><sic>to</sic><corr type="noText"/></choice></add> to be declared by the <lb xml:id="l28"/>President of the board <del type="strikethrough">&amp; the declaration uses to be accompanied by a <choice><sic>ce<lb xml:id="l29"/>mony</sic><corr>ceremony</corr></choice></del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="no">&amp; the Declaration may be accompanied</add> <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> some ceremony <del type="strikethrough">accompanying <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> declaration</del>, as of imposition of hands <lb xml:id="l30"/><del type="blockStrikethrough">by the president in cases of admission or readmission, or of swinging down a torch <lb xml:id="l31"/>in cases of excommunication.</del> <del type="strikethrough">And this confir cer</del> The Declaration by imposition <lb xml:id="l32"/>of <del type="strikethrough">8</del> hands is a Iewish ceremony. We call it confirmation, meaning a confirmation <lb xml:id="l33"/>of what was done by the Godfathers in baptizing the Infant.</p>
