                <p xml:id="par1">By the statute of 2 Ann c 9, it is enacted that <lb xml:id="l1"/>out of the <del type="strikethrough">duties</del> value by the candle of certain East India goods <lb xml:id="l2"/>the <choice><orig><hi rend="underline">du<del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">e</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">t</add>ies payable</hi></orig><reg>duties payable</reg></choice> <del type="cancelled">for</del> upon those goods &amp; the allowances for prompt <lb xml:id="l3"/>payments <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; warehouse room</add> shall be subducted &amp; upon the cle<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">ar</add> value <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> remains to <lb xml:id="l4"/>the merchant <del type="strikethrough">a d</del> those duties <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">sh</add>all be laid <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> were formerly laid <lb xml:id="l5"/>upon the value of the same good stated by oath. <add place="lineEnd" indicator="no">Th<del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">e</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">is</add> <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">A</add>ct was made</add> <add place="infralinear" indicator="no">to remedy the undervaluing of the goods <del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">is</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">up</add>on Oath.</add></p>
                
                <p xml:id="par2"><del type="strikethrough">The duties payable upon the value by oath amounted to 35<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> 2<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> 9<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> <lb xml:id="l6"/>per Cent.                 <p xml:id="par3">The duties by th<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">e</add> <del type="strikethrough">candle</del> value of these goods <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">stated</add> upon oath amount <lb xml:id="l12"/>unto 35<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> 2<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. <del type="over">0</del><add place="over" indicator="no">9</add><hi rend="superscript">d</hi> per cent <del type="strikethrough">&amp; after this rate per cent the duty</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; <del type="strikethrough">would</del> be the undervaluing of the goods upon oath would have been very small.                 <p xml:id="par4">Quære. Whether by the <choice><orig><hi rend="underline">d<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">u</add>ties payable</hi></orig><reg>duties payable</reg></choice> are to be understood <lb xml:id="l16"/>such duties as are payable by <del type="cancelled">the</del> Act<add place="inline" indicator="no">s</add> of Parliament and are <del type="strikethrough">P<gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="4"/></del> <lb xml:id="l17"/>actually to be paid as has been explained above, or some other <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">imaginary</add> duties <lb xml:id="l18"/><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> are not imposed by any Acts of Parliament nor are ever to be paid</p>
