                <p xml:id="par2">According to yo<hi rend="superscript">er</hi> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> Order signified to me by M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Secretary <lb xml:id="l2"/>Harley in his Letter of Feb. 26 <del type="strikethrough">instant</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">last</add>, I have considered the Letter <lb xml:id="l3"/>of his Grace the Duke of Ormond her <choice><abbr>Maj<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi></abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> Lieutenant General &amp; <lb xml:id="l4"/>General Governour of Ireland sent to yo<hi rend="superscript">er</hi> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice>, together with the <lb xml:id="l5"/>Representation sent to his Grace from the Lords of her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi></abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l6"/>most <choice><abbr>Hon<hi rend="superscript">ble</hi></abbr><expan>Honorable</expan></choice> privy Council of that Kingdom, <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">mentioning <choice><sic/><corr type="noText"/></choice> a <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">late</add> Proclamation for making current in Ireland some pieces of <choice><sic>forreig</sic><corr>forreign</corr></choice> gold &amp;</add> proposing the making <lb xml:id="l7"/><lb xml:id="l8"/>current there by <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">further</add> Proclamation several <add indicator="yes" place="supralinear">other</add> pieces of forreign Gold <lb xml:id="l9"/>therein named <del type="strikethrough"><add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; omitted in a former Proclamantion</add></del> in order to prevent the counterfeiting thereof <del type="strikethrough">by <lb xml:id="l10"/>making the crime high treason</del> And <add indicator="yes" place="supralinear">as to the value of the pieces</add> I humbly represent that the <lb xml:id="l11"/>Spanish Pistoles one <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> another, as they are brought hither by <lb xml:id="l12"/>the Merchant, weigh 103 grains each, &amp; are in fineness half a <lb xml:id="l13"/>grain wors then standard, &amp; after the rate that a guinea is valued <lb xml:id="l14"/>in England at 1<hi rend="superscript">£</hi> 1<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> 6<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>, are <del type="strikethrough">here</del> worth 17<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> 1<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>, &amp; in Ireland where <lb xml:id="l15"/>the silver money is raised a penny in the Shilling, if the gold <lb xml:id="l16"/>be raised in the same proportion, are worth 18<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> 6<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>. But by the <lb xml:id="l17"/>Representation I perceive that they are recconed in Ireland to <lb xml:id="l18"/>weigh only 102 grains, a grain (as I conceive) being abated to <lb xml:id="l19"/>give a currency to such lighter peices as want not above a grain <lb xml:id="l20"/>of their just weight. The Lewid'ors of France are of the same <lb xml:id="l21"/>weight fineness &amp; value <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> the Spanish Pistoles. And the Moy<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l22"/>ders of Portugal one <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> another, as they are brought hither <lb xml:id="l23"/>by the merchant, weigh 165 grains &amp; three quarters of a grain, <lb xml:id="l24"/>&amp; are a quarter of a grain better then standard, &amp; in England <lb xml:id="l25"/>are worth 27<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 8<hi rend="superscript">d</hi><formula><math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mfrac><mn>1</mn><mn>2</mn></mfrac></math></formula>, &amp; being raised a penny in the shilling <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l26"/>become worth 1<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">£</tei:hi> 10<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">s</tei:hi> 0<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">d</tei:hi> in Ireland. In her <tei:choice xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"><tei:abbr>Maj<tei:hi rend="superscript">ts</tei:hi></tei:abbr><tei:expan>Majesties</tei:expan></tei:choice> <tei:del xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" type="cancelled"><tei:gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></tei:del> Proclama<tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" type="hyphenated" xml:id="l27"/>tion their weight may be put 165 grains, the fraction being <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l28"/>omitted in favour of the lighter pieces. In the Representation their <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l29"/>weight is put 168<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">gr</tei:hi> <tei:choice xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"><tei:abbr>w<tei:hi rend="superscript">ch</tei:hi></tei:abbr><tei:expan>which</tei:expan></tei:choice> is certainly too much; &amp; thence it comes to pass <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l30"/>that they are there valued at 1<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">£</tei:hi> 10<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">s</tei:hi> 6<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">d</tei:hi>, <tei:choice xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"><tei:abbr>w<tei:hi rend="superscript">ch</tei:hi></tei:abbr><tei:expan>which</tei:expan></tei:choice> is 6<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">d</tei:hi> too much. I have <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l31"/>examined the weight of 30 parcels of Moyders conteining a thousand <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l32"/>Moyders in each parcel &amp; thereby found that the Moyder at a medium <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l33"/>weighs only 165<tei:formula xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"><math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mfrac><mn>3</mn><mn>4</mn></mfrac></math></tei:formula> grains.</p>
                <tei:p xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="par3">In her <tei:choice><tei:abbr>Ma<tei:hi rend="superscript">ts</tei:hi></tei:abbr><tei:expan>Majesties</tei:expan></tei:choice> Proclamation therefore the Spanish &amp; French <tei:lb xml:id="l34"/>gold coins may be put of the weight &amp; value exprest in the <tei:lb xml:id="l35"/>Representation. But the Portugal coins may be set down as follows. <tei:lb xml:id="l36"/>The Portugal piece of gold called a Moyder &amp; weighing 165 grains, at <tei:lb xml:id="l37"/>1<tei:hi rend="superscript">£</tei:hi> 10<tei:hi rend="superscript">s</tei:hi> 0<tei:hi rend="superscript">d</tei:hi>. The half Moyder weighing 82 grains &amp; an half, at 15<tei:hi rend="superscript">s</tei:hi>. <tei:lb xml:id="l38"/>The quarter Moyder weighing 41 grains &amp; a quarter, at 7<tei:hi rend="superscript">s</tei:hi> 6<tei:hi rend="superscript">d</tei:hi>.</tei:p>
