                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par1">The great value put upon French &amp; Spanish Pistoles in <lb xml:id="l1"/>England has made them of late flow plentifully hither <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">above any other sort of Gold</add> <lb xml:id="l2"/>Especially the French Pistoles <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> are better sized &amp; coyned <lb xml:id="l3"/>&amp; less liable to be counterfeited &amp; by consequence of more <lb xml:id="l4"/>credit then <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Spanish. For Pistoles pass amongst us for <lb xml:id="l5"/>17<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> 6<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> a piece whereas one <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> another they are worth <lb xml:id="l6"/>but about 17<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> 1<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> at <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> rate that Guineas of due weight &amp; <lb xml:id="l7"/>fineness are worth 21<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 6<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>. And if allowance be made for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l8"/>lightness of o<hi rend="superscript">er</hi> silver mon<del type="over">e</del><add indicator="no" place="over">i</add>es by the <del type="cancelled">wearing &amp;</del> melting down <lb xml:id="l9"/>of the heaviest pieces &amp; wearing of the rest yet Pistoles will be <lb xml:id="l10"/>worth but between 17<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> 2<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> &amp; 17<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> 3<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</p>
                <p xml:id="par2">About four years ago by the English putting to great a value <lb xml:id="l11"/>upon Scotch money, the northern borders of England were filled <lb xml:id="l12"/>with <del type="strikethrough">Scotch</del> that money &amp; Scotland was filled with o<hi rend="superscript">ers</hi> the Scots <lb xml:id="l13"/>making a<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">b</add>out 8 or 9 p<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> cent profit by <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> exchange untill <lb xml:id="l14"/>yo<hi rend="superscript">er</hi> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> put a stop to the mischief. The case being now <lb xml:id="l15"/>the same in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <add indicator="yes" place="supralinear">reputed</add> par of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Exchange between o<hi rend="superscript">er</hi> money &amp; Pistoles <lb xml:id="l16"/><add place="marginLeft supralinear" indicator="yes"><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> runs 3<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> or 4<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> in a Pistole<del type="cancelled">s</del> to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> nations loss</add> we humbly represent it to yo<hi rend="superscript">er</hi> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> <del type="strikethrough">beleiving it proper to <lb xml:id="l17"/>be laid before</del> in order to such a remedy as your <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> shall <lb xml:id="l18"/>think f<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">it</add>, so that when <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Exchange <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> forreign nations runs on o<hi rend="superscript">er</hi> side as at p<hi rend="superscript">re</hi>sent we may not lose o<hi rend="superscript">er</hi> advantage by it, &amp; <lb xml:id="l19"/>when it runs against us we may not lose more <add indicator="yes" place="supralinear">by it</add> then is necessary. All <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice></p>
                <p xml:id="par3">We presume also to lay before you <choice><abbr>Lo<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> that by reason of <lb xml:id="l20"/>the great demand of Silver dor exportation to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Indies the <lb xml:id="l21"/>price of Bullion exceeds <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> of <del type="strikethrough">Silver for <gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">of silver</add> monies by 3<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> or 4<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> <lb xml:id="l22"/>&amp; sometimes by 6<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> or 7<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> p<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> ounce, whereas the monies ought to <lb xml:id="l23"/>be of <del type="cancelled">f</del> <add indicator="yes" place="supralinear">as <del type="cancelled">as great</del><add indicator="no" place="supralinear">great</add> or</add> greater value <add indicator="yes" place="supralinear">then bullion</add> by reason of the workmanship. And this high <lb xml:id="l24"/>price of Bullion <add indicator="yes" place="supralinear">has</add> not only put<del type="cancelled">s</del> an end to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <del type="cancelled">future</del> coynage <lb xml:id="l25"/>of Silver <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/>monies</del> but is a great temptation to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <del type="cancelled">melting</del> <lb xml:id="l26"/><del type="strikethrough">down clandestine</del><add indicator="no" place="supralinear">melting down &amp;</add> export<del type="over">ation</del><add indicator="no" place="over">ing</add> <del type="cancelled">of</del> what is already coyned.
