                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par1"><hi rend="large">In</hi> the Indentures of the Mint made Anno. 37 Edw. III, An. 46 Edw III, An. 1 Hen. VI, An 2 Edw IV, <lb xml:id="l1"/>An. 1 Rich III, An. 24 Hen VIII, An. 1 Edw. VI, An. 2 Edw. VI, An 1 Mar. I mention is made that the Master <lb xml:id="l2"/>and Worker hath found Sureties before the King in his Chancery that he shall make gree to the <lb xml:id="l3"/>Merchant in manner &amp; form as is aforesaid. And in the first five Indentures the summ &amp; sureties <lb xml:id="l4"/>are named, in the four last they are not named. The summ named is usually 500<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi>.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par2">In the Indenture made An. 2, Elizab: mention is made that the Vnder Treasurer of the Mint <lb xml:id="l5"/>hath found sureties before the Queen in Chancery in 1000<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> that upon pain thereof he shall make gree <lb xml:id="l6"/>to the Queen &amp; to the Merchant</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par3">In the Indenture made An. 3 Eliz. it is said that the Master &amp; Worker hath bound himself in <lb xml:id="l7"/>500<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> &amp; found sureties in other 500<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> that upon pain thereof he shall make gree to the Queen &amp; <lb xml:id="l8"/>to the Merchant. The Queen is joyned with the Merchant because she recoyned the money of her <lb xml:id="l9"/>Predecessors</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par4">In the Indentures made An 14 Eliz. An 2 Iac. I, An. 3 Iac I An 10 Iac I An. 2 Car. I <lb xml:id="l10"/>An. 12 Car II An. 22 Car. II mention is made that the Master &amp; Worker hath found sureties <lb xml:id="l11"/>in the summ of 2000<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> before his Majesty in Chancery that upon pain thereof he shall make <lb xml:id="l12"/>gree to the Queen or King &amp; to the Merchant <del type="cancelled">in form &amp; manner</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">in manner &amp; form</add> as is aforesaid.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par5">The Commissioners for M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Slingsby gave <del type="strikethrough">security</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">bond</add> in 2000<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> a piece in the Exchequer before <lb xml:id="l13"/>they took the Oath of Office.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par6">In the Indentures of An. 1 Iac II &amp; An. 1 Gul. III made to M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Neale (who was expensive &amp; <lb xml:id="l14"/>in debt &amp; by indirect meanes insinuated himself into the Office<choice><sic>,</sic><corr>)</corr></choice> there is a Covenant that the <lb xml:id="l15"/>Master &amp; Worker shall find such B<del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">u</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">o</add>rrows &amp; Sureties in their Majesties Court of Exchequer <pb xml:id="p410r" n="410r"/><fw type="pag" place="bottomLeft">410</fw> in such summ as the Commissioners of the Treasury or High Treasurer of England for the time <lb xml:id="l16"/>being shall approve of that upon pain thereof he shall make gree to their Majesties &amp; to the <lb xml:id="l17"/>Merchant according to the said Indenture. <del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">&amp;</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">A</add>nd after the passing of the first of those two <lb xml:id="l18"/>Indentures he did find sureties in 15000<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> but after the passing of the second he found none. <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="1"/></p>
                
                <p xml:id="par7"><hi rend="large">Q</hi>. 1 Ought the Master of the Mint upon his first beginning to receive the Merchants <lb xml:id="l19"/>Bullion &amp; the Queens money to fi<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">n</add>d Sureties that he shall make gree to the Queen &amp; to the <lb xml:id="l20"/>Merchant, or ought he <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">t</add>o do it <del type="strikethrough">when</del> immediately before he makes Oath to the Indenture of the <lb xml:id="l21"/>Mint or should he be then bound upon oath to do it afterwards, &amp; where ought he to do it. <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="5"/></p>
                
                <p xml:id="par8">Q. 2 For making sure that the Master doth find sureties is it not fit to mention in the <lb xml:id="l22"/>Indenture that the Master ha<del type="over">s</del><add place="over" indicator="no">t</add><add place="inline" indicator="no">h</add> found sureties so that an Indenture may not be sealed to <lb xml:id="l23"/>him till he hath found them. <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="2"/></p>
                
                <p xml:id="par9">Q 3. Ought the Master to find sureties to observe all the Covenants of the Indenture <lb xml:id="l24"/>there being other punishments proper for such Covenants as do not create a debt &amp; an Oath <lb xml:id="l25"/>for the Observance of them &amp; no mention in any Indenture of finding such Sureties.</p>
