                <p xml:id="par1"><del type="strikethrough"><hi rend="large">The manner of making new standard Trial Pieces.</hi></del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">How new standard Trial pieces may be made</add> <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="1"/></p>
                
                <p xml:id="par2"><del type="strikethrough">Her Maj<hi rend="superscript">ty</hi> or her Council orders new standards of gold &amp; silver, out of <lb xml:id="l1"/>crown gold &amp; one of sterling silver, to be made &amp; each divided into six in<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l2"/>dented Pieces to be delivered accordign to her Maj<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi> directions</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">Vpon <del type="strikethrough">the</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">an</add> order of the Queen or Council for making <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; delivering</add> new standard trial <lb xml:id="l3"/>pieces of Gold &amp; silver <del type="cancelled">to</del></add> <lb xml:id="l4"/>The <choice><abbr>L<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Lord</expan></choice> Chancellour of <choice><abbr>g<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>great</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Br.</abbr><expan>Britain</expan></choice> sends his letter to the Wardens &amp; Company <lb xml:id="l5"/>of Goldsmiths to return him the names of an able Iury to make the standards. <lb xml:id="l6"/>The Iury for this purpose ha<del type="over">d</del><add place="over" indicator="no">s</add> been of 12 or 15 persons.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par3">The names being returned, his <choice><abbr>Lo<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> sends his Warrant  by  his Serjeant <lb xml:id="l7"/>at arms or Serjeants Deputy to summon the Iury <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">b</add>y their names  to attend his <lb xml:id="l8"/><choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> at a time appointed <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">b</add>y him.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par4">And when they attend, his <choice><abbr>Lo<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> calls to his Serjeant at arms for his  Warrant <lb xml:id="l9"/>for summoning them &amp; appoints the same to be delivered to the Remembrancers <lb xml:id="l10"/>Deputy who attends <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> a copy of an Oath to be given to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Iury, &amp; the Oath  <lb xml:id="l11"/>being administred the <choice><abbr>L<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Lord</expan></choice> Chancellour gives the Iury in Charge to make the said <lb xml:id="l12"/>two Standards with all the <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="3"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">ski</add>ll &amp; exactnes imaginable, &amp; to indent &amp; divid<supplied reason="copy">e</supplied> <lb xml:id="l13"/>each into six equal parts according to their best endeavours &amp; to inscribe <lb xml:id="l14"/>&amp; print the same, &amp; appoints the time when &amp; where to attend with their <lb xml:id="l15"/>Veredict &amp; with the said indented trial pieces.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par5">Which being done his <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> delivers the said Trial pieces or orders them <lb xml:id="l16"/>to be delivered <del type="cancelled">upon Re</del> according to her <choice><abbr>Maj<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi></abbr><expan>Majestys</expan></choice> directions upon Receip<del type="over">s</del><add place="over" indicator="no">t</add><add place="inline" indicator="no">s</add> mutu<lb xml:id="l17"/>ally given for the same, &amp;  sends the Veredict &amp; Receipts to the <choice><abbr>L<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Lord</expan></choice> Trea<lb xml:id="l18"/>surer or <choice><abbr>Comm<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi></abbr><expan>Commissioners</expan></choice> of the <choice><abbr>Tr<hi rend="overline">ear</hi>y</abbr><expan>Treasury</expan></choice> to be entered into the <choice><abbr>Tre<hi rend="overline">a</hi>ry</abbr><expan>Treasury</expan></choice> &amp; kept by <lb xml:id="l19"/>the Deputy Remembrancer.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par6">The print has been that <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">of the money suppose</add> of a Guinea on the Gold &amp; a shilling on the <lb xml:id="l20"/>silver, &amp; the Inscriptions have been as <lb xml:id="l21"/>follows. <hi rend="underline"><add place="lineEnd" indicator="no">This standard</add> <del type="cancelled"><lb type="intentional" xml:id="l22"/>The standard</del> commixed of 22 carrets of fine gold &amp; 2 carrets of allay <lb xml:id="l23"/>in the pound weight Troy of <add place="supralinear" indicator="no"><del type="strikethrough">England</del></add><add place="infralinear" indicator="no"><del type="strikethrough">great Brit</del></add> England 20 <del type="over">I</del><add place="over" indicator="no">A</add>u<del type="over">n</del><add place="over" indicator="no">g</add>. 1<del type="over">7</del><add place="over" indicator="no">6</add>0<del type="over">7</del><add place="over" indicator="no">5</add> <choice><orig><lb type="intentional" xml:id="l24"/></orig><reg><lb xml:id="l25"/></reg></choice>This standard commixed of <del type="strikethrough">22 carrets of fine <unclear reason="del" cert="low">&amp;</unclear></del> 11<hi rend="superscript">oz</hi> 2<hi rend="superscript">dw<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></hi> of fine <lb xml:id="l26"/>silver &amp; 18<hi rend="superscript">dw<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></hi> of allay in the pound weight Troy of England <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">made</add> 20 <del type="over">I</del><add place="over" indicator="no">A</add>u<del type="over">n</del><add place="over" indicator="no">g</add>. 1<del type="over">7</del><add place="over" indicator="no">6</add>0<del type="over">7</del><add place="over" indicator="no">5</add>.</hi> <lb xml:id="l27"/>And the <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="3"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">lik</add>e inscriptions may be still used putting great Britain for England.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par7"><add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">By the Indenture of the Mint</del></add> One <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">of the last</add> Tria<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">l</add> pieces of each metal <del type="strikethrough">h<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">as</add> <del type="cancelled">to</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">heretofore</del></add> be<add place="inline" indicator="no">en</add> deliv<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>ed into</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">remains now in</add> the Treasury <lb xml:id="l28"/><del type="strikethrough">to be kept by</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no"><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice></add> the Deputy Chamberlains of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Excheq<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">r</hi></orig><reg>uer</reg></choice> for trial of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l29"/>Pix, One <choice><orig><add place="inline" indicator="no">w</add>t<del type="over">o</del><add place="over" indicator="no">h</add></orig><reg>with</reg></choice> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Warden of the Mint for trying the moneys <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; Worker for making the moneys, One <del type="over">to</del><add place="over" indicator="no"><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice></add> the <lb xml:id="l31"/>Wardens of the Company of Goldsmiths for trying their works of <lb xml:id="l32"/>gold &amp; silver, One <del type="strikethrough">to</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">in</add> the Treasury in Scotland for trying the moneys <lb xml:id="l33"/>ther<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">e</add> <choice><orig><add place="inline" indicator="no">w</add>t<del type="over">o</del><add place="over" indicator="no">h</add></orig><reg>with</reg></choice> the General &amp; other Officers of the Mint in Scotland <lb xml:id="l34"/>for making the moneys there. <del type="strikethrough">But</del> <del type="over">p</del><add place="over" indicator="no">P</add>erhaps it will be more conformable to <lb xml:id="l35"/>the Act of Vnion that the moneys of both Mints be <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">hence<del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">t</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">f</add>orward</add> tried before the Queen <lb xml:id="l36"/>&amp; Council after one &amp; the same manner <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">with <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> standards of <choice><abbr>g.B.</abbr><expan>great Britain</expan></choice> by a Iury of Goldsmiths</add> &amp; be made <del type="strikethrough">after the same me<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l37"/><del type="cancelled">thod</del></del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">&amp; examined</add> <lb xml:id="l38"/>by two Trial pieces<del type="cancelled">,</del> <del type="strikethrough">before delivery</del> in both Mints a<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">l</add>ike, <del type="cancelled"><add place="inline" indicator="no">[</add></del>&amp; for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l39"/>end that <del type="strikethrough">both</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">one of</add> the Trial pieces made for Scotland be <del type="strikethrough">delivered <lb xml:id="l40"/>to the General <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">&amp; officers</del></add> of that Mint to</del> be kept the <del type="strikethrough"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="3"/></del> by the Master <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">of that Mint</add> for <lb xml:id="l41"/>making the moneys, <add place="supralinear" indicator="no">&amp;</add> the other by the Warden for trying them before <lb xml:id="l42"/>delivery, &amp; for deciding controversies between the Master &amp; the Merchant <lb xml:id="l43"/>about the Bul<del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">u</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">li</add>on, as is done in the Tower.</p>

                <p xml:id="par8">The Trial pieces may be delivered to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> same Officers &amp; for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> same uses <lb xml:id="l44"/>as formerly, unless that <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> was delivered to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Treasury in Scotland be now deli<lb xml:id="l45"/>vered to the General &amp; Warden of the Mint at Edinborough <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">&amp;</add> that <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> was forme<supplied reason="copy">rly</supplied> <lb xml:id="l46"/>delivered to the General <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">&amp;</add> Officers of that Mint be now delivered to the Gener<supplied reason="copy">al</supplied> <lb xml:id="l47"/>&amp; Master of the same Mint.
