                <p xml:id="par3">In answer to the Memorial <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">of</add> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Nicholson &amp; M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Briggs <lb xml:id="l2"/>I humbly represent that as often as they have applied themselves <lb xml:id="l3"/>to me I have told them that without a Warrant from the King <lb xml:id="l4"/>I could not receive copper in blanks nor coin money with round <lb xml:id="l5"/>edges for the people, &amp; that without a Warrant from <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l6"/>I could not deliver <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del> Cutters to them. I have told them also <lb xml:id="l7"/>that M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Appleby &amp; M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Hines having all th<del type="over">e</del><add place="over" indicator="no">i</add>ngs ready for a <lb xml:id="l8"/>triall were to coin their five Tonns first, &amp; that when I was ready <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">for the Memorialists</add> I would give them notice, but it would take up some time <lb xml:id="l9"/>first to prepare the Mint for a tryall. There is no difficulty <lb xml:id="l10"/>in rounding the edges of the bl<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">a</add>nks; &amp; I have not delivered <lb xml:id="l11"/>a new Cutter to M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Appleby &amp; M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Hines since the 3<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> of Iune <lb xml:id="l12"/>last <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">as <del type="strikethrough">they <gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="3"/><unclear reason="del" cert="high">said</unclear> Memorialists</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">is</add> pretended</add>, tho I may do it <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">b</add>y th<del type="over">e</del><add place="over" indicator="no">a</add><add place="inline" indicator="no">t</add> Warrant <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> I have; nor are <lb xml:id="l13"/>they <del type="over">c</del><add place="over" indicator="no">C</add>ontractors but at discretion; nor have the<del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">se</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">r</add><add place="inline" indicator="no">e</add> been any <lb xml:id="l14"/>delays but for want of Warrants which the Memorialists <lb xml:id="l15"/>should <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">have</add> procured. But if the Memorialists instead of applying <lb xml:id="l16"/>for Warrants, have given themselves a great deale of trouble <lb xml:id="l17"/>in solliciting me to act without <del type="strikethrough">them</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">any</add>, &amp; <add place="inline" indicator="no">if</add> in opposition to the <lb xml:id="l18"/>notice <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> I gave them that Appleby &amp; Hines being ready <lb xml:id="l19"/>should have the first triall, they have built furnaces &amp; <lb xml:id="l20"/>prepared a sufficient quantity of copper ready for the <lb xml:id="l21"/>Cutters &amp; been at sufficient charges in preparing the <add place="supralinear" indicator="no"><del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del></add> same: they <lb xml:id="l22"/>have <del type="strikethrough">done it</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">acte</del>done this</add> c<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">o</add>ntrary to my advic<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">e</add>, &amp; wit<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">h</add>out staying for suffi<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l23"/>cient authority, &amp; can blame no body but themselves if they should <lb xml:id="l24"/>lose their charges for acting <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">in</add> this manner. These things are <lb xml:id="l25"/>plain facts &amp; may <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/>i</del><add place="over" indicator="no">su</add>ffice to shew the <del type="strikethrough">falsness of the</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no"><del type="strikethrough">insincerity</del></add><add place="infralinear" indicator="no">unreasonableness <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">of</add> the</add> <del type="strikethrough">complaints</del> <lb xml:id="l26"/><del type="strikethrough">accusations in the</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">Complaints in the</add> Memorial.</p>
