                <p rend="center" xml:id="par1"><hi rend="large">Observations concerning the Tryall of <lb xml:id="l1"/>the moneys in the Pix.</hi> <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="1"/></p>
                
                <p xml:id="par2">After <del type="strikethrough">the</del> a triall of the Pix is appointed by Order of <lb xml:id="l2"/>Council the Lord Chancellour sends his Letter directed to the <choice><abbr>M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>Master</expan></choice> &amp; <lb xml:id="l3"/>Wardens of the Company of the Goldsmiths to return the <lb xml:id="l4"/>names of an able Iury &amp; after the return of the name he <lb xml:id="l5"/><del type="strikethrough">the <del type="cancelled">The</del> Lord Chancellour</del> sends his Warrant by his Sergeant <lb xml:id="l6"/>at Arms or his Sergeants Deputy to warn the Iury to meet <lb xml:id="l7"/>at the time &amp; place appointed by the <del type="strikethrough">said Order of</del> Council</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par3">At nine in the morning the Pix is set on the Table &amp; before <lb xml:id="l8"/>tenn the Lords usually meet &amp; take their places, the Officers of <lb xml:id="l9"/>the Mint &amp; the Iury <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> the Exchequer Officers attending, &amp; <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">at the command of the <choice><abbr>L<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Lord</expan></choice> Chancellour</add> the <lb xml:id="l10"/>Pix <del type="strikethrough">being</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">is</add> opened by the Officers of the Mint <del type="strikethrough">when</del> &amp; the Gold &amp; <lb xml:id="l11"/>silver <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">moneys therin</add> poured upon the Table<add place="inline" indicator="no">.</add> <del type="strikethrough"><del type="strikethrough">when</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">at</add> the Lords Chancellours command</del></p>
                
                <p xml:id="par4">The Lord Chancellour calls to his sergeant at arms for the <lb xml:id="l12"/>said Warrant for summoning of the Iury &amp; appoints the same to be <lb xml:id="l13"/>delivered to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Remembrancers Deputy who attends <del type="strikethrough">there.</del> with <lb xml:id="l14"/>the Copy of the Oath. And then the Lord Chancellor causes the <lb xml:id="l15"/>Iury to be called over by their names in the said Warrant &amp; <lb xml:id="l16"/>the said oath to be adminstred to them</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par5">The standard Troy weights &amp; the indented tryall pieces of h<del type="over">is</del><add place="over" indicator="no">er</add> <lb xml:id="l17"/><choice><abbr>Maj<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi></abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> Crown gold moneys &amp; standard silver moneys kept in the Treasury <lb xml:id="l18"/>are by order of the Lord Treasurer delivered out for the use of the <lb xml:id="l19"/>Iury, &amp; the <del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">Lord</unclear></del> trial pieces, if the Lord Chancellour pleases, are compared <lb xml:id="l20"/>with those of the Mint &amp; Goldsmiths <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">for the satisfaction of the Court</add><add place="inline interlinear" indicator="no">, or the Iury may compare them after the <lb xml:id="l21"/>Court is withdrawn.</add></p>
                
                <p xml:id="par6">The<del type="strikethrough">n the</del> Lord Chancellour recommends to the Iury the making <lb xml:id="l22"/>the trialls of the moneys in the Pix by the said Standards of <del type="strikethrough">t</del>he<del type="over">ir</del><add place="over" indicator="no">r</add> <lb xml:id="l23"/><choice><abbr>Maj<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi></abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> Treasury as well in weight as in fineness &amp; in the most <lb xml:id="l24"/>just manner that can be, it being a business of very publick <lb xml:id="l25"/>concern. <del type="strikethrough">And in</del> And <del type="strikethrough">then the Lord Chancellour</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">after the Charge he</add> app<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">o</add>ints the Iury when <lb xml:id="l26"/>&amp; where to attend his <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> with their Veredict &amp; so departs with the <lb xml:id="l27"/>rest of the Lords.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par7">The Iury then pr<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">o</add>ceed<del type="strikethrough">s</del> to try the <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> moneys in weight &amp; fineness <lb xml:id="l28"/><del type="strikethrough">before</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">in the presence of</add> the Warden Master &amp; Comptroller of the Mint <del type="over">[</del><add place="over" indicator="no">(</add>as the Assaymaster <lb xml:id="l29"/>of the Mint had done before <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">at the pixing <del type="strikethrough">of the moneys</del> thereof<del type="over">]</del><add place="over" indicator="no">)</add></add> &amp; when the trial is over the Officers of <lb xml:id="l30"/>the Mint <del type="strikethrough">depart</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">retire</add> &amp; <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">before</del></add> the Iury <del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">&amp;</unclear></del> agree upon their Veredict.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par8">When the <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">Iu</add>ry present their Veredict to the Lord Chancellour <lb xml:id="l31"/>the Remembrancers Deputy attends to read it &amp; after it is read to receive <lb xml:id="l32"/>it, &amp; the Officers of the Mint also attend to <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">hear it read &amp; to</del></add> make their objections <del type="strikethrough"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">or else</unclear> <lb xml:id="l33"/>the trial has not been sufficient as the Veredict be not according to the trial</del><add place="supralinear interlinear" indicator="no">if they have <lb xml:id="l34"/>any,</add> <lb xml:id="l35"/><del type="cancelled">[(</del>the Warden &amp; Comptroller <del type="over">i</del><add place="over" indicator="no">o</add>n behalf of the Crown &amp; the Master <del type="over">in</del><add place="over" indicator="no">on</add> his own behalf<choice><sic>)</sic><corr type="delText">)</corr></choice> <lb xml:id="l36"/><del type="strikethrough">in case <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">they think</del></add> the trial has been insufficient<add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> <del type="strikethrough">imperfect</del></add> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="words" extent="1"/></del></add> be the Veredict<del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">s</unclear></del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">exact<del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del>ly agreeing</del></add> according to</del> <choice><sic>the</sic><corr type="delText">the</corr></choice> <del type="strikethrough">trial</del><choice><sic>.]</sic><corr type="delText">.]</corr></choice></p>
                
                <p xml:id="par9">If the moneys prove good the Master at his will to be discharged <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">gratis</unclear></del></add> by letters <lb xml:id="l37"/>patents under the <del type="strikethrough">broad</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">great</add> seal <del type="strikethrough">for his acquittance.</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no"><del type="strikethrough">gratis</del> gratis.</add> If they prove worse &amp; yet within <lb xml:id="l38"/>the remedies, the lack to be entred on record by the Warden &amp; Comptroller <del type="blockStrikethrough"><add place="inline" indicator="no">[</add>or s<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">u</add>ch <lb xml:id="l39"/>as they shall thereunto appoint<add place="inline" indicator="no">]</add></del> &amp; the Master to account for the same to her <choice><abbr>Maj<hi rend="superscript">ty</hi></abbr><expan>Majesty</expan></choice>. <lb xml:id="l40"/>If the<add place="inline" indicator="no">y</add> <del type="strikethrough">moneys</del> prove better, <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; yet within the remedies</add> the same to be entred on record &amp; allowed to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Master in his <lb xml:id="l41"/>charge when any lack shall be found by the like assays. <add place="inline" indicator="no">And</add> <del type="cancelled">I</del><add place="inline" indicator="no">i</add>f the<add place="inline" indicator="no">y</add> <del type="strikethrough">moneys</del> shall be <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice>out <lb xml:id="l42"/>the remedies, <add place="inline" indicator="no">t</add>h<del type="over">er</del><add place="over" indicator="no">e</add> Master <del type="strikethrough">shall</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="no">to</add> make fine &amp; ransome to her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ty</hi></abbr><expan>Majesty</expan></choice> at her will. <lb xml:id="l43"/>The reme<del type="over">dy</del><add place="over" indicator="no">di</add><add place="inline" indicator="no">es</add> <add place="inline" indicator="no">a</add><del type="over">is</del><add place="over" indicator="no">r</add><add place="inline" indicator="no">e</add> an allowance of two penny weight <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">in silver moneys <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp;</add> <del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">is</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">of</add> the sixt part of a carat in gold moneys</add> above or under the standard in weight <lb xml:id="l44"/>or <add place="infralinear" indicator="no">in</add> fineness or <add place="inline" indicator="no">in</add> both together.</p>
