                <p xml:id="par2">In obedience to <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lo<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> Order of <choice><abbr>Ref.</abbr><expan>Reference</expan></choice> signified to us <supplied reason="damage">by M</supplied><hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Lowndes <supplied reason="damage">his Letter</supplied> <lb xml:id="l1"/>of <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> Iuly <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="3"/> we have considered the Petition of Coll Pars<supplied reason="damage">on</supplied>s &amp; M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Croker <supplied reason="damage" cert="high">and</supplied> <lb xml:id="l2"/><add place="supralinear lineBeginning" indicator="no"><del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del">for</unclear></del> <del type="strikethrough">to succeed M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Ha</del></add> discoursed the Petitioners &amp; also spoke <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Rose &amp; we find that <add place="supralinear interlinear" indicator="yes">Coll. Parsons doth not grave <del type="strikethrough"><unclear reason="del">himsel</unclear></del> himself but imployes <del type="strikethrough"><del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del> good workmen <supplied reason="damage" cert="medium">&amp;</supplied> <unclear reason="hand" cert="low">has</unclear></del> the best workmen <supplied reason="damage" cert="low">and</supplied> <lb xml:id="l3"/>has a good fansy &amp; judgment in these matters &amp; that M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Rosse</add> <choice><sic>M<supplied reason="damage"><hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Rosse</supplied></sic><corr type="noText"/></choice> <lb xml:id="l4"/>desires <del type="cancelled">at</del> <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">o</add>nly to succeed M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Harris in his place of Graver of Seales <del type="cancelled">for</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">to</add> he<supplied reason="damage">r</supplied> <lb xml:id="l5"/><choice><abbr>M<hi rend="superscript">ty</hi></abbr><expan>Majesty</expan></choice> &amp; by a seale <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> he has graved for the Dutchy of Lanc<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">a</add>ster he seems to be <lb xml:id="l6"/>a good workman <del type="strikethrough">&amp; well enough</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">for seales &amp; sufficiently</add> qualified for that place.  But as for <del type="strikethrough">the place <lb xml:id="l7"/>of Graver to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Mint</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Harris'es <lb xml:id="l8"/>other places of Graver for the money &amp; for Medals</add> we humbly lay before <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> that the Master of <lb xml:id="l9"/>the Mint <del type="cancelled">&amp;</del> upon <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">c</add>onsidering what in<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">c</add>onveniency the Mind <del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del">had</unclear></del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no"><del type="over">did</del><add place="over" indicator="no">had</add></add> lately suffer<del type="cancelled">ed</del><add place="inline" indicator="no">ed</add> <lb xml:id="l10"/>&amp; <del type="strikethrough">might</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">may</add> again suffer by taking in Cutters of seales <del type="strikethrough">who</del> into the chief Gravers <lb xml:id="l11"/>place, <del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="high">he</unclear></del> did upon his succeeding M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Neale put a clause into the Indenture <lb xml:id="l12"/><add place="supralinear lineBeginning" indicator="yes">then</add> made between the Crown &amp; himself, whereby the Gravers salary of 325<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> per <choice><abbr>ann<hi rend="overline">u</hi></abbr><expan>annum</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l13"/>upon <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> next voydance fo the place should cease in order to a new <choice><abbr>establishm<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>establishment</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l14"/><add place="supralinear lineBeginning" indicator="no"><del type="strikethrough">for the <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del> advantage of the Coynage</del></add> For M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Harris being a cutter of Seales &amp; not skilled in that sort of graving <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> is <lb xml:id="l15"/>proper for the money, <del type="cancelled">i<unclear reason="del" cert="low">m</unclear></del> imployed <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="cancelled">that</del> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <del type="strikethrough"><unclear reason="del">Roetier</unclear></del> <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames Rotier &amp; afterwards</add> Mr Croker to do all th<del type="over">e</del><add place="over" indicator="no">a</add><add place="inline" indicator="no">t</add> work for an allowance <lb xml:id="l16"/>of 175<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> per <choice><abbr>an</abbr><expan>annum</expan></choice> &amp; retained <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> remaining 150<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> p<del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="low"><hi rend="superscript">r</hi></unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">e</add>r <choice><abbr>a<hi rend="overline">n</hi></abbr><expan>annum</expan></choice> to himself <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice>out doing any thing <lb xml:id="l17"/>for it, &amp; <del type="cancelled">that</del> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Croker not being bred up in the service of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Mint <del type="strikethrough">was</del> did not <lb xml:id="l18"/>understand <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del> it when he first succeed<add place="inline" indicator="no">ed</add> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Roetier by was necessitated for <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="3"/></del><del type="strikethrough">tw</del><choice><sic>o<add place="inline" indicator="no">r</add></sic><corr type="delText">or</corr></choice><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">three</add> or <lb xml:id="l19"/><del type="strikethrough">three</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">four</add> years to copy after M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Roetiers work, <del type="strikethrough">till by</del> <del type="cancelled">&amp;</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">tho</add> now by long practise <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">he</add> works very <lb xml:id="l20"/>well, <del type="strikethrough">&amp; we are humbly of opinion that he is the fittest person to be first graver <lb xml:id="l21"/>of the Mint. <del type="cancelled">&amp;</del></del> It is humbly proposed therefore <del type="strikethrough">that no new Gravers</del> for the security of <lb xml:id="l22"/><add place="lineBeginning" indicator="no">the</add> coyne against counterfeiting that there should be a set of Gravers constantly brought <lb xml:id="l23"/>up in the Mint who having once attained to perfection in the<add place="inline" indicator="no">ir</add> way may <del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del">to</unclear></del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">keep <unclear reason="hand">such</unclear> Art amongst themselves &amp;</add> propagate it to <lb xml:id="l24"/><del type="cancelled">the</del> their Appren<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">t</add>ices or Probationers &amp; be succeeded by them &amp; that no new Graver be <lb xml:id="l25"/>taken into the Mint unless as an Apprentice or Probationer. For <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> end we humb<del type="over"><unclear reason="del">y</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">l</add>y <lb xml:id="l26"/>propose that M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Croker be made the first Graver of the Mint <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> such an augmentation <lb xml:id="l27"/>of <del type="strikethrough">his</del> salary <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">as <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> shall think fit</add> for maintaining himself &amp; a servant to file &amp; polish the Dyes, &amp; that M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <lb xml:id="l28"/>Bull who is now a Probationer <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; works very well</add> be made the second Graver <del type="cancelled">w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> <gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> <del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="high">such</unclear></del> a salary to <lb xml:id="l29"/>be <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">also</add> appointed by <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice>, &amp; a <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> new Probationer taken into the third place so soon as <lb xml:id="l30"/>fit person shall be met with.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par3">And as for M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Harris his other place of Graver of Medals to her <choice><abbr>Maj<hi rend="superscript">ty</hi></abbr><expan>Majesty</expan></choice> we are humbly <lb xml:id="l31"/>of opinion that the Gravers of the Mint <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> time being</add> are <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">the</add> fittest <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">persons</add> to execute it, &amp; that whenever the Master <lb xml:id="l32"/>of the Mint receives any directions about <del type="strikethrough">Medals <gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> making of Coronation Medals or others, they be <lb xml:id="l33"/>obliged to assist him <del type="strikethrough">according</del> &amp; have no power <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">without his leave</add> to <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="4"/></del> use any of the Presses <del type="strikethrough">without his leave</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">or <del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">Pr</unclear></del> Mills for coynage</del></add> <add place="infralinear" indicator="no">in the Mint or to</add> <lb xml:id="l34"/><del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">doe</unclear></del> work upon Medals in any of th<del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="medium">i</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">e</add> rooms <del type="strikethrough">without his leave</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no"><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice></add> belong<del type="over">i</del><add place="over" indicator="no">s</add><del type="cancelled">ng</del> to his Office for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> coynage <lb xml:id="l35"/>of money.</p>
