                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par1"><persName>Thomas Clenton</persName> Citizen &amp; goldesmythe of <placeName>London</placeName> Goldefyner and melter of golde and Silv<hi rend="superscript">er</hi> <lb xml:id="l1"/><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice>in the mynte at the <placeName>Tower of London</placeName> aged Lxxvj yeares or theareaboute sworne &amp; examyned <date>the <lb xml:id="l2"/>xxvij<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> daye of August 1575. and in the xvij<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> yeare of the rayne of o<hi rend="superscript">er</hi> moste dreade sou<hi rend="superscript">er</hi>ayne <lb xml:id="l3"/>Ladie Queene Elizabeth</date> saithe and deposeth uppon his saide othe that he did serve in the mynte <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice>in <lb xml:id="l4"/>the saide tower a thre or fower yeares before S<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Martyn Bowes</persName> knight deceassed was sherif of the <lb xml:id="l5"/>cittye of <placeName>London</placeName> and hathe eu<hi rend="superscript">er</hi> since serued as a fyner &amp; melter in the same mynte / And saithe that <lb xml:id="l6"/>the same S<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Martyn Bowes</persName> beinge them <choice><abbr>m<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>master</expan></choice> of the saide mynte this Deponente very well remembereth <lb xml:id="l7"/>that one <choice><abbr>m<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>master</expan></choice> <persName>John Browne</persName> was at the same tyme an officer also the same mynte and is well assured <lb xml:id="l8"/>that neither the saide <persName>Browne</persName> nor any other officer of that mynte at that tyme had any thinge to doe <lb xml:id="l9"/>or cam into the meltinge house either to ou<hi rend="superscript">er</hi>se or comaunde any thynge there to be done or kepte any keye <lb xml:id="l10"/>thereof excepte suche as the saide <choice><abbr>m<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>master</expan></choice> did therunto appointe / And this examynate dothe verry well remem<hi rend="overline">b</hi> <lb xml:id="l11"/>that at the same tyme there were but two keyes belonginge to bothe the meltinge houses that is to saye <lb xml:id="l12"/>those to the meltinge house of golde and thother to the meltinge house of silu<hi rend="superscript">er</hi> <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> two keyes were <lb xml:id="l13"/>alwayes tyed <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> the keye of the <unclear reason="hand" cert="high">blanthinge</unclear> house the keye of the fyninge house and the keye of the <lb xml:id="l14"/>Cole house all at one Stringe <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> keyes <persName>Thomas Stanley</persName> and this deponent beinge bothe then the saide <lb xml:id="l15"/><choice><abbr>m<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>master</expan></choice><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> seruannts comonly carryed to and from the tower as occasion serued And as for any other keye or <lb xml:id="l16"/>keyes to any of thoffices afore saide sauinge those keyes before mentioned or any ou<hi rend="superscript">er</hi>seer or ou<hi rend="superscript">er</hi>seers of the <lb xml:id="l17"/>meltinge howse or in the meltinge howse other then is before declared this Examynate dothe verry <lb xml:id="l18"/>well knowe none was used And more or furder in effecte <unclear reason="hand" cert="high">touchinge</unclear> the p<hi rend="superscript">re</hi>misses this Examynate knoweth <lb xml:id="l19"/>not /<lb xml:id="l20"/><space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="1"/><lb xml:id="l21"/><space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="30"/>Ass coram d<hi rend="overline">no</hi> Maiore die et A<hi rend="superscript">o</hi> p<hi rend="superscript">re</hi>ditto / <lb xml:id="l22"/><space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="1"/><lb xml:id="l23"/><space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="20"/>Ex. ꝑ me <persName>Rogerus Coys</persName>
