                           <p rend="indent10" xml:id="par1"><add place="marginLeft" indicator="no">Lancast<hi rend="superscript">er</hi> Ss</add> The <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="overline">aio</hi>n</abbr><expan>Information</expan></choice> of <persName>Henry Horsfaile</persName> of <placeName>Lancaster</placeName> <choice><abbr>afores<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>aforesaid</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l1"/>Chymist taken upon Oath <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <date> 21.<hi rend="superscript">st</hi> day of Aug.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi> 1703</date></p>
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2">Who saith that <persName>Joseph Smithhurst</persName> of this Town Watchmaker, did <lb xml:id="l2"/>importune this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> to Engrave or cut a seal or Stamp to Counterfeit <lb xml:id="l3"/>Stamp paper, which he this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> did doe, and delivered the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> Stamp <lb xml:id="l4"/>to the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Smithhurst</persName>, about 6 or 7 years agoe, and <choice><abbr>rec.<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>received</expan></choice> One Guinea <lb xml:id="l5"/>for the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> Stamp or Seale from <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Smithhurst</persName>, And further saith <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l6"/>much <choice><abbr>ab.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> the same time, One <persName>William Greenopp</persName> and <persName>Thomas <lb xml:id="l7"/>Nealson</persName> of <placeName>Furness</placeName> in this County bought each of them a stamp or Seale of <lb xml:id="l8"/>this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> cutting for counterfeiting Stampt paper withall, and gave <lb xml:id="l9"/>to this <choice><abbr>Depon.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> about 26. <choice><abbr><hi rend="overline">shills</hi></abbr><expan>Shillings</expan></choice> a peice for the same, and Saith that he <lb xml:id="l10"/>did See the Said <persName>Thomas Nealson</persName> make use of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> Counterfeit Stamps by <fw type="catch" place="bottomRight">trying it</fw>
                    <pb xml:id="p001v" n="1v"/>Trying it upon paper, and further saith that the said <persName>Nealson</persName> did <lb xml:id="l11"/><choice><sic>did</sic><corr type="noText"/></choice> shew unto this Deponent a counterfeit Stamp for paper <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> he <lb xml:id="l12"/>told this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> he had from <persName>Ferdinand Croudson</persName> (since Executed) And <lb xml:id="l13"/>further saith that one <persName>William Taylor</persName> of <placeName>Hammond head, in the <lb xml:id="l14"/>County of York</placeName>, did bring this Informant unto <persName>Michall Lawson</persName>s <lb xml:id="l15"/>house near <placeName>Stelle in the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> County of York</placeName>, And that <choice><abbr>ab.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> 4. Years <lb xml:id="l16"/>agoe he did see the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Lawson</persName>, make a counterfeit Shilling, by <lb xml:id="l17"/>strikeing it with a Hammer, between a pair of Dyes upon an <lb xml:id="l18"/>Anvill. <hi rend="large">And</hi> that about 12. months agoe the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>W<hi rend="superscript">m</hi> Taylor</persName>, <choice><abbr>bro.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>brought</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l19"/>a pair of Blank dyes to this Informant to cut or engrave, to <lb xml:id="l20"/>counterfeit halfe Crownes, and at another time <choice><abbr>bro.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>brought</expan></choice>also a pair <lb xml:id="l21"/>of of blank dyes to be engraved to counterfeit Crown peices withall <lb xml:id="l22"/>which were delivered back (when finished) to the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Wi<hi rend="overline">ll</hi><hi rend="superscript">m</hi> Taylor</persName> <lb xml:id="l23"/>by this <choice><abbr>Depon.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Michael Lawson</persName> being also p<hi rend="superscript">re</hi>sent: and did <lb xml:id="l24"/>at times receive from the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Taylor</persName> and <persName>Lawson</persName>, about fifty <lb xml:id="l25"/><choice><abbr><hi rend="overline">shills</hi></abbr><expan>Shillings</expan></choice> for cutting the 2. pair of Dyes as <choice><abbr>afores<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>aforesaid</expan></choice>. this Deponent <lb xml:id="l26"/>further saith that the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>W.<hi rend="superscript">m</hi> Taylor</persName> brought him first acquainted <lb xml:id="l27"/>with one <persName>Joseph Claughton</persName> (since executed for high treason) as also <lb xml:id="l28"/>with the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Michael Lawson</persName> and <persName>John Airey <choice><abbr><hi rend="overline">als</hi></abbr><expan>alias</expan></choice> Verey</persName>, whome <lb xml:id="l29"/>this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> hath been told is a notorious Coyner. And he the <lb xml:id="l30"/><choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Airey</persName> did bring unto this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> one Single Dye to finish <lb xml:id="l31"/>to counterfeit shillings withall. And one <persName>Anthony Richardson</persName> <lb xml:id="l32"/>in <placeName>Over Wyarsdale</placeName> Smith did call upon this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l33"/>same Dye, but this <choice><abbr>Depon.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> did never finish it, and <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Richard<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l34"/>son</persName> did also bring one other Single Dye to counterfeit halfe Crow<hi rend="superscript">ns</hi> <lb xml:id="l35"/>withall, And doth further say that According to the best of this <lb xml:id="l36"/><choice><abbr>Depon.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> memory he has made and furnished <choice><abbr>ab.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> 3. pair of Dyes <lb xml:id="l37"/>for the said <persName>John Airey</persName> to counterfeit Crowns and halfe Crown<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> <lb xml:id="l38"/>withall, and has been importuned to engrave or make more <lb xml:id="l39"/>but refused so to doe. And he further saith that one <persName>Ann <lb xml:id="l40"/>Harrisson</persName>, did frequently bring and carry Dues and Messages <lb xml:id="l41"/>between this Informant and the said <persName>Airey</persName>, whome this <lb xml:id="l42"/>Informant is told she lives at <placeName>Cockram in this County of Lanc.</placeName> <lb xml:id="l43"/>This <choice><abbr>Depon.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> doth own that he did counterfeit Stamp paper <lb xml:id="l44"/>in the town of <placeName>Lancast<hi rend="superscript">er</hi></placeName> with a Stamp of his own makeing <lb xml:id="l45"/>and did sell the <choice><abbr>paꝑ</abbr><expan>paper</expan></choice> sometimes to <persName>Rich<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> Green</persName> of <placeName>Kendall</placeName> (an Acquaintance <lb xml:id="l46"/>of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>John Airey</persName>s &amp; sometimes to <persName>Tho.<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> Nealson</persName> <choice><abbr>afores<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>aforesaid</expan></choice> And saith <lb xml:id="l47"/>that <choice><abbr>ab.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> two year agoe, he did sell Stamp paper to the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Wi<hi rend="overline">ll</hi> <lb xml:id="l48"/>Taylor</persName> at a very Small vallue.
