                <p rend="indent10" xml:id="par1"><add indicator="no" place="marginLeft">Wilts Ss</add> The <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="overline">aio</hi>n</abbr><expan>Information</expan></choice> of <persName>Rob:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi> Lawrence</persName> of <placeName>Calne in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> said <lb xml:id="l1"/>county of Wilts</placeName> Glazier who upon his oath saith</p>
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2">That <persName>Robert Hort</persName> of <placeName>Calne</placeName> in this county Malster did about 3 <lb xml:id="l2"/>quarters of a year ago in his said <persName>Robert Hort</persName>s dwelling house att <lb xml:id="l3"/><placeName>Calne</placeName> aforesaid shew to this informant a base &amp; counterfeit peice in <lb xml:id="l4"/>imitation of a 5. shilling peice of the currant coine of this realm. <lb xml:id="l5"/>and at <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> same time told this informant <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> said peice was of his <lb xml:id="l6"/>the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Robert Hort</persName>s own making, &amp; that he had for severall years <lb xml:id="l7"/>before the late regulation of the coyn made counterfeit money <lb xml:id="l8"/>and particularly french three pences, and that two being afterwards <lb xml:id="l9"/>att the house of one <persName>William Clerk</persName> of <placeName>Studly</placeName> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Rob<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>: Hort</persName> did then <lb xml:id="l10"/>and there deliver to this <choice><abbr>inform.<hi rend="superscript">tt</hi></abbr><expan>informant</expan></choice> that or such another counterfeit <lb xml:id="l11"/>peice and desired this informant to offer it in payment for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l12"/>reckoning there, (it being a publick house) and this informant <lb xml:id="l13"/>farther saith that about seven weeks since he being in a chamber <lb xml:id="l14"/>in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> house of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> said <persName>Robt: Hort</persName> did in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> window of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> chamber <lb xml:id="l15"/>see about 3. or 4.<hi rend="superscript">£</hi> by tale of counterfeit money in imitation of <lb xml:id="l16"/>shillings &amp; crown peices of the currant coyn of this realm, that <lb xml:id="l17"/>that the greatest part of it was at that time very black, butt he did <lb xml:id="l18"/>see the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Rob<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>: Hort</persName> take one of those peices and rubbing it with <lb xml:id="l19"/>dirt did bring it to a colour like silver, and also take severall of <lb xml:id="l20"/>them and break them with his fingers into severall peices, <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> metall <lb xml:id="l21"/>what ever it was, being very brittle, and this Informant further sayth <lb xml:id="l22"/>that he did at the same time see in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> chamber a wooden box with <lb xml:id="l23"/>a fine powder in it <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> seemed to this informant to be chalk and that <lb xml:id="l24"/>the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> Box &amp; chalk were for casting of counterfeit money or some such <lb xml:id="l25"/>use as this informant beleives, there being a hole at one end for the <lb xml:id="l26"/>metall to be poured in att, and that too, appearing to have been <lb xml:id="l27"/>burnt by the hott metall, and for that the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Rob<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>: Hort</persName> hath been <lb xml:id="l28"/>used frequently to borrow a melting laddle of this informant and <lb xml:id="l29"/>this <choice><abbr>inform:<hi rend="superscript">tt</hi></abbr><expan>informant</expan></choice> further saith that he did att the time that he was in <lb xml:id="l30"/>the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Rob<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>: Hort</persName>s chamber as is <choice><abbr>afores<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>aforesaid</expan></choice> see <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <supplied reason="omitted" cert="high"><choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice></supplied> <persName>Rob<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>: Hort</persName> take one of <lb xml:id="l31"/>the peices made in imitation of shillings and with a knife cutt &amp; <lb xml:id="l32"/>make the grainings round about the edges of the same peice and <lb xml:id="l33"/>this informant saith <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Rob<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>: Hort</persName> when he shewed <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> first 5 <lb xml:id="l34"/>shilling peice as is aforesaid, did tell this informant that he should <lb xml:id="l35"/>come and see him <del type="strikethrough">make</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">coyn</add> money and make some peices himself <lb xml:id="l36"/>that he might be as far concerned in it as <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> said <persName>Robert Hort</persName>, <lb xml:id="l37"/>and that then neither of them could hang one another being <lb xml:id="l38"/>only two concerned and farther <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> he did find in and bring <lb xml:id="l39"/>away from <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> said <persName>Robert Hort</persName>s house a peice of mettall like silver <lb xml:id="l40"/>&amp; <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> peice made in imitation of a Shilling<del type="cancelled">s</del> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> graining of the edge of <lb xml:id="l41"/><add place="lineBeginning" indicator="no">part</add> whereof he this informant did see the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Robert Hort</persName> make as is <lb xml:id="l42"/><choice><abbr>afores<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>aforesaid</expan></choice> and delivered them both to <persName>Edward Townsend</persName> of <placeName>Calne</placeName> <lb xml:id="l43"/>aforesaid Grocer <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="30"/> <persName>Rob<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>: Lawrence</persName>
