                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2"><persName>Ann</persName> the Wife of <persName>Edw.<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> Gill</persName> of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Citty of <placeName>Chester</placeName> Slater being <choice><abbr>Ex<hi rend="overline">aie</hi>d</abbr><expan>Examined</expan></choice> Saith <lb xml:id="l5"/>that her <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> husband being a Tenant to M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Joseph Horton</persName> of the said Citty she hath <lb xml:id="l6"/>been acquainted with the said M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Horton</persName> for Several years last past, and for <lb xml:id="l7"/>about 3. Months last past she hath been acquainted <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> one M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Roberts</persName> who <lb xml:id="l8"/>Lodged <choice><sic>who lodged</sic><corr type="noText"/></choice> at the said Mr <persName>Horton</persName>s House, but this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> did not see <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l9"/>said <persName><choice><abbr>R<hi rend="overline">obts</hi></abbr><expan>Roberts</expan></choice></persName> at any time between Munday the 9<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> day of this Instant October <lb xml:id="l10"/>and Munday last <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> 16.<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> <choice><abbr>Ins.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Instant.</expan></choice> And on Munday Last about noon this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l11"/>went to the said Mr <persName>Horton</persName>s house in <placeName>Chester</placeName>, to acquaint <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> said M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Horton</persName> that <lb xml:id="l12"/>she had deliv<hi rend="superscript">er</hi>'d a Spinning Wheel, and Some other things according to his <choice><abbr>direcōns</abbr><expan>directions</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l13"/>but M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Horton</persName>s Maid telling this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice>, that her Master was at dinner She <lb xml:id="l14"/>this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> told <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Said Maid she had <choice><abbr>d<hi rend="superscript">ed</hi></abbr><expan>delivered</expan></choice> the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Horton</persName>s Goods according to Ord<hi rend="superscript">er</hi>. <lb xml:id="l15"/>And this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> whilst she was there heard the voyce of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Roberts</persName> in <lb xml:id="l16"/><choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Horton</persName>s Parlour, but she did not then See <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Roberts</persName>, but came <lb xml:id="l17"/>away from thence about 1. a clock in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Afternoon, and did not hear or see <lb xml:id="l18"/>any thing more of or from the said M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Roberts</persName> till between the hours of 9 <lb xml:id="l19"/>and 10. in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Night of the Same day And then this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> happening <lb xml:id="l20"/>to pass by <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> house of M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Joseph Maddock</persName> in the Forest street in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> said <lb xml:id="l21"/>Citty in the way to One M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName><unclear reason="hand" cert="medium">Benens</unclear></persName> whether this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> was goeing to <lb xml:id="l22"/>buy Candles, this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> observed the said M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName><choice><abbr>R<hi rend="overline">obts</hi></abbr><expan>Roberts</expan></choice></persName> Standing at the door <lb xml:id="l23"/>of the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Maddock</persName>'s house who asked her whether She had Seen <persName>Betty <lb xml:id="l24"/>Maddock</persName> lately and this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> (knowing <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> he had been acquainted with <lb xml:id="l25"/><persName>Elizabeth Maddock</persName> daughter to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> said <persName>Joseph Maddock</persName> for some time <persName>Elizabeth Maddock</persName> in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Kittching, the father and the <lb xml:id="l28"/>rest of the Family being gone to bed, and this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> at <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> request of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l29"/><choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Eliz. Maddock</persName>, Staid with them in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> said Kitching all <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> Night till about <lb xml:id="l30"/>Six a Clock <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> next Morning about which time they all heard a rumour <lb xml:id="l31"/>in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Street that M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Joseph Horton</persName> was taken and in Custody upon <choice><abbr>Suspi<hi rend="overline">io</hi>n</abbr><expan>Suspicion</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l32"/>of Coyning at which the said <persName>Roberts</persName> Seem'd very much concern'd and Said <lb xml:id="l33"/>he feared it would go hard with him but <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> if <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> said M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Horton</persName> would <lb xml:id="l34"/>give him 2. or 300.<hi rend="superscript">£</hi> he <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Roberts</persName> did not doubt but he could bring him off: <fw type="catch" place="bottomRight">and further</fw>

                    and further Said that he was affray'd of cmeing into Some trouble <lb xml:id="l35"/>because he had lodged for some time with the said M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Horton</persName> and shortly <lb xml:id="l36"/>afterwards it being light day this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> left them (they being then in t<supplied reason="damage" cert="high">he</supplied> <lb xml:id="l37"/>Entry as if they were about to part) and went home and about <supplied reason="damage" cert="high">8.</supplied> <lb xml:id="l38"/>or 9. a Clock in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Morning on Tuesday last, she went to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> said M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Horton</persName>s h<supplied reason="damage" cert="high">ouse</supplied> <lb xml:id="l39"/>and there heard that the said M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Roberts</persName> was Missing but she did not S<supplied reason="damage" cert="high">ee</supplied> <lb xml:id="l40"/>the said M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Roberts</persName> againe till Yesterday <choice><abbr>ab<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> 6. of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> clock at night, a<supplied reason="damage" cert="high">nd</supplied> <lb xml:id="l41"/>then this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> went to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Maddock</persName>'s house to See <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Eliz. Maddock</persName> <lb xml:id="l42"/>who told her that the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Roberts</persName> was in her Chamber above, whether this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l43"/>and the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Eliz. Maddock</persName> p<hi rend="superscript">re</hi>sently went up to him, and this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> at his request <lb xml:id="l44"/>fetched a bottle of Ale for him from <persName>Charles Moulson</persName>s house and p<hi rend="superscript">re</hi>sently <lb xml:id="l45"/>after left them togeather in the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Eliz.
