                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2"><persName>Joseph Horton</persName> Cittizen and Goldsmith of <placeName>London</placeName> but now resident <lb xml:id="l5"/>in the Citty of <placeName>Chester</placeName> being <choice><abbr>Exaīed</abbr><expan>Examined</expan></choice> Saith that on fryday last at night he <lb xml:id="l6"/>Lay at his Country house at <placeName>Cotton Hook</placeName> near <placeName>Chester</placeName> &amp; came from there <lb xml:id="l7"/>to his house in <placeName>Chester</placeName> on Satturday Last about 11. of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Clock in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Forenoon <lb xml:id="l8"/>and returned thence to <placeName>Cotton-Hook</placeName> about Eleaven of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Clock in the night of <fw type="catch" place="bottomRight">the</fw>
                    <pb xml:id="p001v" n="1v"/>the same day and stay'd there till Yesterday being <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> 16.<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> day of this Instant October and came from thence on foot to his said house in <lb xml:id="l9"/><placeName>Chester</placeName> about 8. of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Clock of the fore noon of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Same day, and <lb xml:id="l10"/>then haveing Lime sand and Bricks in readiness in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Sellar of <lb xml:id="l11"/>the said house he im̄ediately Sett himselfe to Work and made up <lb xml:id="l12"/>Some Mortar, and haveing about 3. days before lay'd <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Foundaīion of a <lb xml:id="l13"/>Furnace in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> Sellar and raised the Same about 3. brickes <lb xml:id="l14"/>high from the Flo<del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del>er this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>ꝑceeded</abbr><expan>proceeded</expan></choice> therein Yesterday in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Morning <lb xml:id="l15"/>and finished and <choice><abbr>ꝑfected</abbr><expan>perfeced</expan></choice> the Same with his own hands, by 11. of <lb xml:id="l16"/>the Clock in the forenoon of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Same day haveing carried the Worke <lb xml:id="l17"/>also to make up the Mortar with his own hands, And then this <lb xml:id="l18"/><choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> im̄ediately built a <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">fire upon <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> said</add> furnace and put <choice><abbr>ab<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> 50 or 60 pounds <lb xml:id="l19"/>of brass Mettall into Severall potts upon the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> fire, in Order to be <lb xml:id="l20"/>Melted and refined, intending therewith to make some Images of <lb xml:id="l21"/>fine Brass to be used at his said Countrey house at <placeName>Cotton Hook</placeName>. <lb xml:id="l22"/>And <choice><abbr>ab<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> 12. or 1. of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Clock <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Same day he went to dinner haveing <lb xml:id="l23"/>the said Potts upon <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> fire, and dined on a peice of Porck <lb xml:id="l24"/>haveing no other Company att dinner than his own Children and <lb xml:id="l25"/>Maid <choice><abbr>Serv.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Servant.</expan></choice> And further this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> saith <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> for <choice><abbr>ab<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> 7. years <lb xml:id="l26"/>last past, he hath been acquainted with one M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Bery</persName> alias <persName>Roberts</persName> <lb xml:id="l27"/>born and bred in <placeName><choice><abbr>Westm<hi rend="superscript">er</hi></abbr><expan>Westminster</expan></choice></placeName> as this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> hath heard and beleives, and <lb xml:id="l28"/>is Intitled to an Estate of 200.<hi rend="superscript">£</hi> <choice><abbr>ꝑ an̄</abbr><expan>per annum</expan></choice> in <placeName><choice><abbr>Westm<hi rend="superscript">er</hi></abbr><expan>Westminster</expan></choice></placeName> aforesaid (as this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l29"/>hath also heard and beleives) and <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName><choice><abbr>Rob<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi></abbr><expan>Roberts</expan></choice></persName> for about 12 months <lb xml:id="l30"/>last past hath usually lived &amp; reseided with this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice>, but this <lb xml:id="l31"/><choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> hath not Seen him at all within 3. dayes last past, and is very <choice><abbr>ꝑticularly</abbr><expan>particularly</expan></choice> certain <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> he <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName><choice><abbr>Rob<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi></abbr><expan>Roberts</expan></choice></persName>  did not live with <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l32"/>yesterday nor was he concern'd with this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Makeing Setting <lb xml:id="l33"/>up or useing the said furnace in this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice>s Sellar, but this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l34"/>alone after dinner Yesterday attended <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> said Metall in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> Potts, and <lb xml:id="l35"/>about 4. of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Clock in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Afternoon <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> Metall began to Melt, and this <lb xml:id="l36"/><choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> continued attending and Fluxing <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Same haveing given <choice><abbr>dir<hi rend="overline">ions</hi></abbr><expan>directions</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l37"/>to his <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> MaidServant if any body enquired for him to say he was not <lb xml:id="l38"/>at home, because <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> said work required continuall attendance, and <lb xml:id="l39"/>this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> Expected to have been been employ'd about the Same, the <lb xml:id="l40"/>greatest past of the Last night, but about 6. or 7. of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Clock att <lb xml:id="l41"/>night this <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> haveing <choice><abbr>rec.<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>received</expan></choice> Sev<hi rend="superscript">er</hi>all Messages from M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>James <lb xml:id="l42"/>Mainwareing</persName> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> said M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persName>Mainwareing</persName>s house was on fire, the <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l43"/>used all the <choice><abbr>Expedi<hi rend="overline">ion</hi></abbr><expan>Expedition</expan></choice> he could to demollish <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> said Furnace &amp; put out <lb xml:id="l44"/>the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> Fire which was thereon, in <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> time Sev<hi rend="superscript">er</hi>all of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> melting Potts <lb xml:id="l45"/>were broak or overturned and the said Mettall ran into the fire <lb xml:id="l46"/>And whereas a Certain great Brass Engine or <choice><abbr>Instrum.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Instrument</expan></choice> haveing a strong <lb xml:id="l47"/>Iron Screw at the one End of it and <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> other end or Some part <lb xml:id="l48"/>thereof melted away, was found last night upon Search in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l49"/>Cistern of Water there, This <choice><abbr>Exaīant</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> declareth <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> he never before <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> time <lb xml:id="l50"/>used or Saw the Same Engine or <choice><abbr>Instrum.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Instrument</expan></choice> nor doth he know how or <lb xml:id="l51"/>by waht means the Same Engine or <choice><abbr>Instrum.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Instrument</expan></choice> was conveyed into <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Said <lb xml:id="l52"/>Cistern <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="40"/><hi rend="larger"><persName>Jos.
