                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par1"><hi rend="large">The <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice></hi> <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn Holland deposeth that on or <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l1"/><choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>uly 96 he this <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> did see Richard White who <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="4"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">then</add> <lb xml:id="l2"/>lived in Clements Churchyard in the Strand with one <lb xml:id="l3"/>Simms's wife of Gravell Lane of Southwark coyn new money <lb xml:id="l4"/>in his Lodging which he cast in a flask it being a tryall for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l5"/>said White did promisse to employ this <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> to coyn money <lb xml:id="l6"/>for him but this <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> some litle time afterwards comeing into <lb xml:id="l7"/>the interest of the <choice><abbr>Governm<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Government</expan></choice> though things of another nature <lb xml:id="l8"/>yet made the said White decline <choice><orig>ꝑ</orig><reg>per</reg></choice>forming his promisse that his <lb xml:id="l9"/><choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> hath known <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">him</add> for these 7 years last past to be a Clipper</p>
                
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2">The <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> likewise deposeth that <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> 12 or 14 dayes before <lb xml:id="l10"/>Midsomer in the year 1697 in Woodstreet he this <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l11"/>mett with one Cap<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>. Bedford who was an old acquaintance <lb xml:id="l12"/>of this Deponents who told this <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> that he desired to see <lb xml:id="l13"/>him at his house which was the sign of the Sunn in <lb xml:id="l14"/>Newington according to the said Bedford's desire this <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l15"/>did go to the said Bedford's house the Sunday before midsom<choice><orig><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">r</add></orig><reg>er</reg></choice> <lb xml:id="l16"/>97 where he found one <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn Sturgis with him and they <lb xml:id="l17"/>were coyning <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn Sturgis English half pence and <lb xml:id="l18"/>Bedford new English shillings they both assisting one another <lb xml:id="l19"/>as occasion required Cap<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>. Bedford told this <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> that his buisines <lb xml:id="l20"/><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> him was to set him to work but this <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> telling Bedford <lb xml:id="l21"/>that he was engaged to another person and going for Ireland in <lb xml:id="l22"/>order thereunto the said Bedford desired this <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> upon his <lb xml:id="l23"/>arivall in Ireland to send him word how he liked <lb xml:id="l24"/>Ireland and <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>what</expan></choice> encouragem<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</orig><reg>ent</reg></choice> he could give him for <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn Sturgis <lb xml:id="l25"/>and Cap<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>. Bedford did both tell this <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> that if he gave them <lb xml:id="l26"/>encouragem<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">t</hi></orig><reg>ent</reg></choice> they would both come over in 6 monthes the <lb xml:id="l27"/><choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> being going to Ireland with intent and resolu<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">c</hi></orig><reg>ti</reg></choice>on to coyn <lb xml:id="l28"/>with one Thomas Atkinson who did promisse to lend

                    the Deponents 100<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">l</hi></hi>. to put him in a way but upon the <lb xml:id="l29"/>Deponent's first comeing into Ireland he meeting <lb xml:id="l30"/>with one M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Edward Loyd who informing this <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l31"/><choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> he had discovered one Richard White a Coyner &amp; <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> it would <lb xml:id="l32"/>be acceptable and good service to the <choice><orig>Governm<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</orig><reg>Government</reg></choice>  to detect <lb xml:id="l33"/>such persons upon which this Deponent altered his mind &amp; did <lb xml:id="l34"/>discover to the said mr Loyd that there were divers Notorious <lb xml:id="l35"/>Clippers and Coyners in Ireland who were fled out of <lb xml:id="l36"/>England from <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ustice and that they were resolved still to hold <lb xml:id="l37"/>on their illegall practises in that Kingdom this <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> having <lb xml:id="l38"/>been very often in company with many of them did hear <choice><abbr>ym</abbr><expan>them</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l39"/>say that Ireland was the fittest place in the world for <lb xml:id="l40"/>coyning the people being ignorant and all sorts of <lb xml:id="l41"/>money being current and every body using Charcoale <lb xml:id="l42"/>they might use that without being suspected The <lb xml:id="l43"/>Deponent making this discovery divers of them were <lb xml:id="l44"/>apprehended by mr Loyd and many fled by those <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> were <lb xml:id="l45"/>apprehended being bayled fled</p>
                
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par3">This <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> further saith <del type="cancelled"><choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>that</expan></choice></del> that he hath seen on <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn Collins <lb xml:id="l46"/>who kept the 3 Tunns in Aldermanbury and one who was <lb xml:id="l47"/>called Nurse Price who <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> this time two yeares kept a <lb xml:id="l48"/>Brandy Shop in Long Lane both clipp and coyn old money <lb xml:id="l49"/>at his house in Aldermanbury and that <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> this tyme 2 years <lb xml:id="l50"/>he did see the said Price and Collins at his house coyn new <lb xml:id="l51"/>money which they stamped with Dyes having a Mill at <lb xml:id="l52"/>the same tyme Collins swore God Damne him di<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">d</add> they <lb xml:id="l53"/>think to make any money that he could not count<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">r</hi></orig><reg>er</reg></choice>feit</p>
                
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par4">The <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> deposeth <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> five yeares agoe <lb xml:id="l54"/>he receiving 5<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">ll</hi></hi> of very broad money he shewing it to <lb xml:id="l55"/>one William Peniston a Silver smith in Foster Lane <lb xml:id="l56"/>he <choice><orig>ꝑ</orig><reg>per</reg></choice>swaded this Deponent to let him clipt it which he <lb xml:id="l57"/>this <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> complying to the said Peniston <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">i</add>n his house did <lb xml:id="l58"/>imediatly clipp and gave this Deponent half value of the <lb xml:id="l59"/>Clippings in money likewise this <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> hath seen the said <lb xml:id="l60"/>Peniston with <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn Collings cast <choice><abbr><hi rend="overline">sev<hi rend="superscript">ll</hi></hi></abbr><expan>severall</expan></choice> old half Crownes at the said <lb xml:id="l61"/>Collins's house up two pair of staires in Aldermanbury <lb xml:id="l62"/>And <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> one Rob<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>. Wells being under <choice><sic>sentance</sic><corr>sentence</corr></choice> of death <lb xml:id="l63"/>for clipping and e<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">xecte</hi></orig><reg>xecute</reg></choice>d accordingly before he was ex<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">ected</hi></orig><reg>ecuted</reg></choice> <lb xml:id="l64"/>he gave this <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> a bill of 6<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">l</hi></hi> on one M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Treavers a <lb xml:id="l65"/>Clothworker in Moorefields which money was to bear his <lb xml:id="l66"/>charges in Prison and to defray the charges of his <lb xml:id="l67"/>buriall as may appear by a Note under the hand <lb xml:id="l68"/>of the <choice><abbr>sd</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="3"/> Wells before his execution to the

                    Deponent the Deponent went to the said Trevers with the <lb xml:id="l69"/>said bill who told the Deponent he could not pay it presently <lb xml:id="l70"/>but if he could call in a<choice><orig/><reg><supplied reason="omitted">n</supplied></reg></choice> hour or 2<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> time he should then have it <lb xml:id="l71"/>upon this the <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> said <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> if he could pay it in a<choice><orig/><reg><supplied reason="omitted">n</supplied></reg></choice> houre's time <lb xml:id="l72"/>he might as well pay it now upon which the <choice><abbr>sd</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Trevers bid <lb xml:id="l73"/>the <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> sitt down and then went up staires and the <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l74"/>hearing a Noise stept up staires and found him clipping of money <lb xml:id="l75"/>and his wife fileing it and to make a Dispatch this <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l76"/>rub<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">d</hi></orig><reg>bed</reg></choice> some of it on a rubbing leather himself</p>
