                <p rend="center" xml:id="par1">The Information of Elizabeth Groom wife of Thorp <lb xml:id="l1"/>Groom of Bare ally in Seacoal Lane in S<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>. Sepulchres <lb xml:id="l2"/>parrish <choice><abbr>Gent.</abbr><expan>Gentleman</expan></choice> 29<hi rend="superscript">th</hi>. day of Aprill 1699</p>
                
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2">She saith That <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> February las<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">t</add> Cornelius Dyer late Prisoner in <lb xml:id="l3"/>the Gatehouse brought to the <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> &amp; her husband a Crown in <lb xml:id="l4"/>Counterfeit shillings and six pences wrapt up in a brown paper <lb xml:id="l5"/>and slipping it in the paper into her husband's hand said mr. <lb xml:id="l6"/><choice><sic>M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>.</sic><corr type="noText"/></choice> Groom there is the money I owe you and imediately <lb xml:id="l7"/>went away and her husband opening the paper found in it <lb xml:id="l8"/>5<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. of new counterfeit money And that a few daies before <lb xml:id="l9"/>she did see in the hand of the said Dyer a long narrow board with <lb xml:id="l10"/>a Slitt in the Midle of one of the sides the length of the board was <lb xml:id="l11"/><choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> a foot and the breadth 2 or 3 inches and the said Dyer said <lb xml:id="l12"/>it was to make an Edger by putting a file into the slitt And <lb xml:id="l13"/>that some daies after (but before the above men<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">c</hi></orig><reg>ti</reg></choice>oned delivery <lb xml:id="l14"/>of the Crown) the said Dyer shewed the <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> a <choice><orig>ꝑ</orig><reg>par</reg></choice>cell <supplied reason="omitted">of</supplied> new <lb xml:id="l15"/>counterfeit Milld <choice><abbr>shi<hi rend="overline">ll</hi><hi rend="superscript">s</hi></abbr><expan>shillings</expan></choice> and sixpences with 2 pieces of coun<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">t</add><choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">r</hi></orig><reg>er</reg></choice>feit <lb xml:id="l16"/>Dutch money amongst them and asking the <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> if they <lb xml:id="l17"/>were not good things said that he would do them better yet so <lb xml:id="l18"/>that nobody should refuse them and being of a sweat <lb xml:id="l19"/>said that he had been hard at work and that his shirt was <choice><sic>weat</sic><corr>wet</corr></choice> <lb xml:id="l20"/>on his back and that the Charcoal fire made him faint because <lb xml:id="l21"/>he had not used it so long and that he was going on the other wise the <lb xml:id="l22"/>water to buy some Metall at the Copper house of <choice><abbr>Io</abbr><expan>John</expan></choice> one of <lb xml:id="l23"/>the man And a litle before he the said Dyer told the <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice>

                    that he had been at the Warden's and the Warden told him that <lb xml:id="l24"/>he hoped he was not at work again and litle thought he was <lb xml:id="l25"/>and the <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> saying that he should have askt the <lb xml:id="l26"/>Warden for money to sett up he reply<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</orig><reg>ed</reg></choice> that would have <lb xml:id="l27"/>been wise work indeed And the <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> hath heard the <lb xml:id="l28"/>said Dyer confess that he has coyned at the King's head by <lb xml:id="l29"/>Billingsgate and at other places before he was an <lb xml:id="l30"/>evidence And that on Wednesday night last Sarah <lb xml:id="l31"/>Dobson a lodger in the house of M<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi>. Hayes at the sign of <lb xml:id="l32"/>the Cradle in Shandois street brought to the <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l33"/>six shillings in counterfeit shillings and sixpences and had <lb xml:id="l34"/>3<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. of good money for the same. And that the <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l35"/>representing that they were dear she reply<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</orig><reg>ed</reg></choice> that she <lb xml:id="l36"/>(meaning Nurse Ha<unclear reason="damage" cert="high">rtl</unclear>ey as the Deponent apprehends) <lb xml:id="l37"/>could afford them no cheaper and the last night <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> 7 or 8 <lb xml:id="l38"/>at night the said mrs Dobson brought 5<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> more count<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">r</hi></orig><reg>er</reg></choice>feit <lb xml:id="l39"/>money and the Deponent's husband gave her 2<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> 6<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> for <lb xml:id="l40"/>the same and presently after M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Saker and others to <lb xml:id="l41"/>whom the <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> had made the matter known <lb xml:id="l42"/>apprehended the said mrs Dobson who imediatly declared <lb xml:id="l43"/>that Nurse Hartley made the same in her's the said Dobson's <lb xml:id="l44"/>room and that the Tooles for making the same were to be <lb xml:id="l45"/>found there and then the <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> going thither <lb xml:id="l46"/>with the said mr Saker and others to search <choice><sic><del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">f</add>aw</sic><corr>for</corr></choice> the <lb xml:id="l47"/>Tools found there in a hand basket and some counterfeit <lb xml:id="l48"/>money in a Drawer and some pieces of Metall to make the <lb xml:id="l49"/>some broke off from <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice></add> false money that was found in <lb xml:id="l50"/>the bask<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</orig><reg>et</reg></choice> the <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> saith further that <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> 2 months ago <lb xml:id="l51"/>the said Nurse Hartley brought <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> 6 or <del type="over">7</del><add place="over" indicator="no">8</add><hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. of counterfeit <lb xml:id="l52"/>money not yet coloured to the house of the said mrs <lb xml:id="l53"/>Dobson and offer<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">d</hi></orig><reg>ed</reg></choice> to sell it to the said mrs Dobson but the <lb xml:id="l54"/>said mrs Dobson refused to buy the same and the said <lb xml:id="l55"/>Nurse Hartley at the same time telling the <choice><abbr>sd</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l56"/>M<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi> Dobson that she had a room in a place as safe
