                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2">This <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> says she has lived with M<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi>. Matthews <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> 3 <lb xml:id="l1"/>quarters of a year that <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> Iune or Iuly last Chaloner <lb xml:id="l2"/>and Davis came to her <choice><abbr>Mrs.</abbr><expan>Mistresses</expan></choice> House <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> Chaloner sent <lb xml:id="l3"/>her to Carter's Lodging to fetch an oyle stone which was a <lb xml:id="l4"/>short piece of a stone as also a litle botle of Oyle and a violl of <lb xml:id="l5"/>Aqua fortis which she brought to Chaloner then he wanted <lb xml:id="l6"/>some small Coal to be lighted and a bason of clean water <lb xml:id="l7"/>with a Cloth which he had with him in a Room up one <lb xml:id="l8"/>pair of staires where he lockt himself in and took out the <lb xml:id="l9"/>Key chaloner staid there <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> 2 <choice><sic>yeares</sic><corr>hours</corr></choice> this <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> had <lb xml:id="l10"/>curiousity to look through the Keyhole and saw Chaloner <lb xml:id="l11"/>sitting with his back towards her and his face <lb xml:id="l12"/>towards the Window she thought he was writing

                    but as he turn<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">d</hi></orig><reg>ed</reg></choice> his head aside she perceived he had something <lb xml:id="l13"/>very br<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">i</add>ght lying before him which lookt like a plate <lb xml:id="l14"/>and she was satisfyed it was a Copper plate <choice><sic>seing</sic><corr>seeing</corr></choice> it <lb xml:id="l15"/>afterwards in her <choice><abbr>mrs</abbr><expan>mistress</expan></choice>'s Trunck when Chaloner came down <lb xml:id="l16"/>staires this <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> went into the room and upon <lb xml:id="l17"/>the Window where m<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Chaloner sat + she saw a thin <lb xml:id="l18"/>shining Dust the same evening Chaloner brought in a <lb xml:id="l19"/>piece of leather and made up a Sand Bagg.</p>
                
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par3">The plate this <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> saw in her <choice><abbr>M<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi>.</abbr><expan>Mistress's</expan></choice> Trunck lookt like <lb xml:id="l20"/>a thing that was scratcht the ends lookt like flourishes of a letter <lb xml:id="l21"/>and in the midle were some lines scratcht</p>
                
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par4">The next day the bagg was carryed away and she supposes the plate <lb xml:id="l22"/>too for she did not see it till <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> a fortnight or 3 weeks after <lb xml:id="l23"/><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">n</hi>.</abbr><expan>when</expan></choice> Chaloner came againe and wanted some paper</p>
                
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par5">This <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> fetcht them a pennyworth of the best <lb xml:id="l24"/>writing paper Chaloner carryed it up into the room above <lb xml:id="l25"/>stairs and askt for scissors a piece of an Earthen Dish and <lb xml:id="l26"/>clean Woollen Raggs which had with some clean water <lb xml:id="l27"/>and a Napkin Chaloner lockt himself up as before giving orders <lb xml:id="l28"/>that if any body askt for him Carter or her <choice><abbr>mrs.</abbr><expan>mistress</expan></choice> that the Maid <lb xml:id="l29"/>should answer that no body was at home + not open the Door <lb xml:id="l30"/>Chaloner was by himself shutt up <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> 2 houres and this <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l31"/>peept againe through the key hole and saw Chaloner standing <lb xml:id="l32"/>at the window with the earthen Dish by him and the plate <lb xml:id="l33"/>before him he took the raggs and dipt them in the Dish <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">n</hi>.</abbr><expan>then</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l34"/>he rub<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">d</hi></orig><reg>bed</reg></choice> it over the plate and laid some paper atop of it and <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">n</hi></abbr><expan>then</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l35"/>laid something over the paper which lookt whitish like flanell <lb xml:id="l36"/>but she could not tell what it was then she thinks he burnt <lb xml:id="l37"/>it and took out the paper and laid and then he rub<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">d</hi></orig><reg>bed</reg></choice> the <lb xml:id="l38"/>plate over againe as he did before and laid over another paper <lb xml:id="l39"/>this <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> peept near <formula><math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mfrac><mn>1</mn><mn>2</mn></mfrac></math></formula> an hour then went up stairs and <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l40"/>came to the Keyhole againe and saw Chaloner still doing <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l41"/>the same thing with his Raggs and his paper</p>
                
                <tei:p xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="indent0" xml:id="par6">When Chaloner was gone of the room this <tei:choice><tei:abbr>Inform<tei:hi rend="superscript">t</tei:hi></tei:abbr><tei:expan>Informant</tei:expan></tei:choice> <tei:lb xml:id="l42"/>went into it and saw the Window all daubed only <tei:lb xml:id="l43"/>where the plate lay that place was clean in the <tei:lb xml:id="l44"/>Earthen Dish and blacking and the ragg left in it <tei:lb xml:id="l45"/>she put the Dish up in a Closset

                <tei:p xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="indent0" xml:id="par7"><tei:choice><tei:abbr>Abo<tei:hi rend="superscript">t</tei:hi>.</tei:abbr><tei:expan>About</tei:expan></tei:choice> a week after that Chaloner gave her <tei:choice><tei:abbr>mrs</tei:abbr><tei:expan>mistress</tei:expan></tei:choice> a paper <tei:lb xml:id="l46"/>with some thing in it which she put into a Trunck <tei:lb xml:id="l47"/>that did not close this <tei:choice><tei:abbr>Inform<tei:hi rend="superscript">t</tei:hi>.</tei:abbr><tei:expan>Informant</tei:expan></tei:choice> opend the Trunck as <tei:lb xml:id="l48"/>Chaloner and her <tei:choice><tei:abbr>m<tei:hi rend="superscript">rs</tei:hi>.</tei:abbr><tei:expan>mistress</tei:expan></tei:choice> went out togeather there <tei:lb xml:id="l49"/>this <tei:choice><tei:abbr>Inform<tei:hi rend="superscript">t</tei:hi>.</tei:abbr><tei:expan>Informant</tei:expan></tei:choice> saw the same plate againe but all the <tei:lb xml:id="l50"/>stroakes were now finisht and black with the <tei:lb xml:id="l51"/>stuff which she supposes Chaloner had used when <tei:lb xml:id="l52"/>he workt upon it. Chaloner fetcht the Plate <tei:lb xml:id="l53"/>againe three or 4 dayes after</tei:p>
