                <p rend="center" xml:id="par1">The Informa<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">c</hi></orig><reg>ti</reg></choice>on of Mary Lacy wife of Rob<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>. Lacy late <supplied reason="damage" cert="low">of</supplied> <lb xml:id="l1"/>Newstreet in the <choice><orig>ꝑ</orig><reg>par</reg></choice>ish of S<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>. Brides London Mer<supplied reason="damage" cert="low">cer</supplied> <lb xml:id="l2"/>taken this 13<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> day of aug<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>. 1698</p>
                
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2">Who saith that in or <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> October last past <choice><sic>past</sic><corr type="noText"/></choice> one George Owen of <lb xml:id="l3"/>Narbut in the County of pembrook in Wales Destiller, Griffith Morg<supplied reason="damage">an</supplied> <lb xml:id="l4"/>of the same place Victualler and M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>. Thomas Read (who is now in custody) did <supplied reason="damage" cert="low">in</supplied> <lb xml:id="l5"/>the presence of this <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> counterfeit the <choice><abbr>Curr<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Current</expan></choice> Coyn of this Kingdom <lb xml:id="l6"/>by casting shillings and six pences at the house of the said Griffith morgan &amp; the said Owen did propose to get Dyes made in Ireland by a Friend of <lb xml:id="l7"/>his that lived there provided this <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> and the said M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>. Read could make <lb xml:id="l8"/>use of them and the wifes of the said own and Morgan were privy to their <lb xml:id="l9"/>making of False money as aforesaid Owen's wife brought charcoal and seeme<supplied reason="damage">d</supplied> <lb xml:id="l10"/>to be very angery because they could not cast the false money according <supplied reason="damage">to</supplied> <lb xml:id="l11"/>her expecta<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">c</hi></orig><reg>ti</reg></choice>on and Morgans wife brought sand to scoar the money w<supplied reason="damage" cert="low">ith</supplied> <lb xml:id="l12"/>and selt to boyle it in</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par3">That the said M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>. Read and one Mary Bush of Highgate <gap reason="damage" unit="words" extent="1"/> <lb xml:id="l13"/>did two dayes and a half togeather in the presence of this <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> on the <lb xml:id="l14"/>Bedd Chamber of the said Mary Bush counterfeit the <choice><abbr>Curr<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Current</expan></choice> Coyn <lb xml:id="l15"/>of this Kingdom by casting Shillings and that this <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> afterw<supplied reason="damage">ards</supplied> <lb xml:id="l16"/>saw some counterfeit shillings and sixpences in the custody of the <lb xml:id="l17"/>said Read and Read declared them himself of block <supplied reason="damage" cert="medium">Tin</supplied> <lb xml:id="l18"/>which Tin he bought of one M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>. Redding a pewterer <lb xml:id="l19"/>and this <choice><abbr>Inf<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">o</add>rm<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> asking Read what a<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">d</add>vantage

                    he could <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">p</add>ropose to himself by making Counterfeit money of such <unclear reason="hand" cert="high"><choice><sic>Metell</sic><corr>Metal</corr></choice></unclear> <lb xml:id="l20"/>as Block Tin only the said Read replyed and said that he did not question <lb xml:id="l21"/>but to get his expences by it for that the Metall stood him but in a <lb xml:id="l22"/><choice><sic>litle</sic><corr>little</corr></choice> charge and that he melted it down without any Charcoale</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par4">And this <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> further saith that in or <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>anuary last past she <lb xml:id="l23"/>was in company of one M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>. Berry at his own house at the Fountain <lb xml:id="l24"/>Ale house near the Barge house in the <choice><orig>ꝑ</orig><reg>par</reg></choice>ish of Lambeth in the <lb xml:id="l25"/>County of Surrey and then and there the said M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>. Berry told this <lb xml:id="l26"/><choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> that he had seen a pair of <choice><sic>Ginea</sic><corr>Guinea</corr></choice> Dyes in the custody of a <lb xml:id="l27"/>friend of his and <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> his said friend wanted a heavy Metall to mix <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l28"/>Gold <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> would make <choice><sic>Gineas</sic><corr>Guineas</corr></choice> <choice><sic>fallweight</sic><corr cert="medium">fullweight</corr></choice>, and the said Berry enquired <lb xml:id="l29"/>of this <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> if she knew of any such Metall and this <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> told <lb xml:id="l30"/>him <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> if he would give her some money she would see if she <lb xml:id="l31"/>could get any such Metall and <del type="strikethrough">this Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi> told him that if he <lb xml:id="l32"/>would.</del> Berry offered to give to this <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> 5 or 10<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> but this <lb xml:id="l33"/><choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> refused to take the same because it was too <choice><sic>litle</sic><corr>little</corr></choice> And <lb xml:id="l34"/>this <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> afterwards <choice><sic>seing</sic><corr>seeing</corr></choice> the said M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>. Berry enquired <lb xml:id="l35"/>of him what progress or good his friend and he had made or done <lb xml:id="l36"/>concerning making false <choice><sic>Gineas</sic><corr>Guineas</corr></choice> with the said <choice><sic>Ginea</sic><corr>Guinea</corr></choice> Dyes <lb xml:id="l37"/>and Berry said that his friend had brought him 2 counterfeit <lb xml:id="l38"/><choice><sic>Gineas</sic><corr>Guineas</corr></choice> to shew to an aquaintance of his (Berry's) who was a <choice><abbr>Kn<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Knight</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l39"/>and a Great Banker as Berry declared and that the said Banker <lb xml:id="l40"/>said they would do very well and that he could take off his <lb xml:id="l41"/>hands 5000 <choice><orig>ꝑ</orig><reg>per</reg></choice> week of such false <choice><sic>Gineas</sic><corr>Guineas</corr></choice> if he could get <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">m</hi>.</abbr><expan>them</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l42"/>made as good as the said two false <choice><sic>Gineas</sic><corr>Guineas</corr></choice> were And the said <lb xml:id="l43"/>Berry said that he pawned a pearle Necklace and a Diamond <lb xml:id="l44"/>Ring for money to lay out for a stock for his said friend to make <lb xml:id="l45"/>false <choice><sic>Gineas</sic><corr>Guineas</corr></choice> with and that his said friend afterwards 10 false <choice><sic>Gineas</sic><corr>Guineas</corr></choice> <lb xml:id="l46"/>but that they were so bad <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> he would not shew them to his said <lb xml:id="l47"/>friend the Banker <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="1"/></p>
                
                <p xml:id="par5">That upon Easter Sunday last past this <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> dyned at the house <lb xml:id="l48"/>of the said M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>. Berry where there was a strang<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">r</hi></orig><reg>er</reg></choice> of <unclear reason="hand" cert="medium">all men</unclear> and <lb xml:id="l49"/>in ordinary habbitt and this Informant hearing of the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> <choice><orig>ꝑ</orig><reg>per</reg></choice>son talk <lb xml:id="l50"/>of his drinking a great quantity of Wine every day this <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l51"/>asked Berry what say the said <choice><orig>ꝑ</orig><reg>per</reg></choice>son had to get so much money <lb xml:id="l52"/>to spend in Wine Berry told this <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> that he was a Coyn<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">r</hi>.</orig><reg>er</reg></choice> <lb xml:id="l53"/>but that he was frighted away from his Habita<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">con</hi></orig><reg>tion</reg></choice> by a pack of <lb xml:id="l54"/>Rogues that were Informers but that he had an Edger to edge <lb xml:id="l55"/>Crown pieces with and another edger to edge shillings and <choice><sic>Gineas</sic><corr>Guineas</corr></choice> <lb xml:id="l56"/>and that he could take <formula><math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mfrac><mn>1</mn><mn>2</mn></mfrac></math></formula> an ounce of <tei:gap xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" reason="hand" unit="chars" extent="4"/> from off 20<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">s</tei:hi>. <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l57"/>by fileing the Edges of New money and after new edge it by

                    his Engines aforesaid, and that the said mr Berry <tei:choice xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"><tei:orig>ꝑ</tei:orig><tei:reg>per</tei:reg></tei:choice>swaded this <tei:choice xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"><tei:abbr>Inform<tei:hi rend="superscript">t</tei:hi></tei:abbr><tei:expan>Informant</tei:expan></tei:choice> <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l58"/>and the said Read to make false money and said that the fatt <tei:choice xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"><tei:orig>ꝑ</tei:orig><tei:reg>per</tei:reg></tei:choice>son afore<tei:choice xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"><tei:abbr>sd</tei:abbr><tei:expan>said</tei:expan></tei:choice> <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l59"/>would edge the money they made for 2<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">s</tei:hi>. in the pound, and the <tei:choice xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"><tei:abbr>sd</tei:abbr><tei:expan>said</tei:expan></tei:choice> Berry <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l60"/>did likewise propose to this <tei:choice xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"><tei:abbr>Inform<tei:hi rend="superscript">t</tei:hi>.</tei:abbr><tei:expan>Informant</tei:expan></tei:choice> and M<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">r</tei:hi>.
