                <p rend="indent10" xml:id="par2"><hi rend="large">The Humble <choice><abbr>Petic<hi rend="overline">on</hi></abbr><expan>Petition</expan></choice></hi> of the Officers of Her <choice><abbr>Ma.<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majestys</expan></choice> Mint</p>
                
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par3"><hi rend="larger">Sheweth</hi></p>
                
                <p xml:id="par4">That the Warden Workmen Moneyers and other Ministers appointed for <lb xml:id="l1"/>the Service of the Mint have by <choice><sic>Antient</sic><corr>Ancient</corr></choice> priviledge always been freed exempted &amp; <lb xml:id="l2"/>discharged from being putt into any Assizes Iurys Inquests or Attaints and that <lb xml:id="l3"/>none of them against his Will should be Mayor Sheriff Bayliff, Escheator, Constable <lb xml:id="l4"/>Collector Inquisitor, or Assessor, nor bear any other Office nor Service whatsoever within <lb xml:id="l5"/>the City of London and submits thereof or any other City or place where they Inhabit, &amp; <lb xml:id="l6"/>where their Estates do Lyes, and that every of them should likewise be freed from all <lb xml:id="l7"/>Imprests such Actions, Arrests, Attaints &amp;c without leave first had from the Warden <lb xml:id="l8"/>of Her <choice><abbr>Ma.<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majestys</expan></choice> Mint and that none of them should be molested distrained or otherwise <lb xml:id="l9"/>grieved in their Lands Tenements Rents Goods and Chattels as by <choice><sic>antient</sic><corr>ancient</corr></choice> Charters <lb xml:id="l10"/>from the Crowne confirmed by Your <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majestys</expan></choice> Letters patents and of several of Your <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi></abbr><expan>Majestys</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l11"/>progenitors and predecessors Kings and Queens of England may appear as likewise <lb xml:id="l12"/>by particular Orders of the Court of Exchequer and other precedents remaining in <lb xml:id="l13"/>the Office of the Mint.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par5">That notwithstanding such Exemptions and Iust Privilidges always <lb xml:id="l14"/>Granted to the Wardens, Workmen, Monyers and other Ministers Attendants of the said <lb xml:id="l15"/>Office, Several of them have been and are at this time molested and troubled by the <lb xml:id="l16"/>Impositions of several Offices and Duties as well within the Wards of the City as elsewhere <lb xml:id="l17"/>and by the Lord Mayor and Court of Aldermen threatned with Imprisonments and fined if <lb xml:id="l18"/>they refuse, and that a Distress was made the 7<hi rend="superscript">th</hi>. of December last upon the Good  of <lb xml:id="l19"/>Thomas Kemp, one of the Moneyers, by Warrant dated the 30<hi rend="superscript">th</hi>. November Signed by <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn <lb xml:id="l20"/>Lade, Sam<hi rend="superscript">l</hi>. Lewin, Tho<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. Malyn, and Edm<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>. Reading Deputy Lieut<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>: of the County of Surrey <lb xml:id="l21"/>William Breton Clerk.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par6">All <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi>:</abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> being contrary to the express Words of their Charter and tending to the <lb xml:id="l22"/>Destruction of their <choice><abbr>Corpor<hi rend="overline">aco</hi>n</abbr><expan>Corporation</expan></choice> &amp; to the Obstruction of Coinage &amp; increase of the Charges thereof, by <lb xml:id="l23"/>reason that the Service to be performed in the Office of the Mint is of that Consequence &amp; Natura<supplied reason="copy">l</supplied> <lb xml:id="l24"/>requisite &amp; necessary &amp; that the neglect thereof is not answerable or Excusable by pretence <lb xml:id="l25"/>of any other Employment whatsoever.</p>

                <p rend="indent10" xml:id="par7">Your <choice><abbr>Petico<hi rend="overline">n</hi>ers</abbr><expan>Petitioners</expan></choice> therefore humbly Pray that Your Majesty would <lb xml:id="l26"/>be Graciously pleased to give such Orders about the Premisses, that <lb xml:id="l27"/>the above said Distress may be returned and that the Officers, Monyers, <lb xml:id="l28"/>Workmen and others Ministers and Attendants now or hereafter <lb xml:id="l29"/>belonging to Your Majestys Mint may enjoy their <choice><sic>antient</sic><corr>ancient</corr></choice> <lb xml:id="l30"/>Privilidges and that they and every of them be Exempted &amp; freed <lb xml:id="l31"/>from all manner of personal Offices and Duties whatsoever <lb xml:id="l32"/>within the City of London and suburbs thereof and other places of <lb xml:id="l33"/>their Abode and from Arrest prest Imprisonment Molestation or <lb xml:id="l34"/>fine to be putt upon them or any of them for refusing to bear any <lb xml:id="l35"/>such offices A like Order of Council for all the Officers of the <lb xml:id="l36"/>Ordnance having been made 8<hi rend="superscript">th</hi>: Iune 1664 who have no such <lb xml:id="l37"/>Charters or Letters pattents for the Confirmation of their privilidges <lb xml:id="l38"/>as the Officers of Her Majestys Mint have</p>
