                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2">May it Please Your Lordships</p>
                
                <p rend="indent5" xml:id="par3">The great Value put upon French and Spanish pistoles in England has made <lb xml:id="l1"/><anchor xml:id="n025-01"/><note place="marginLeft" target="#n025-01">French <lb xml:id="l2"/>Pistoles</note> them of late flow plentifully hither above all other sorts of Gold especially the French Pistoles <lb xml:id="l3"/>which are better sized and Coined and less liable to be Counterfeited and by Consequence of <lb xml:id="l4"/>more Credit than the Spanish For pistoles pass among us for 17<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 6<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> <choice><sic>apeice</sic><corr>a piece</corr></choice> whereas one with <lb xml:id="l5"/>another they are worth but about 17<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 1<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> at the rate that Guineas of due weight &amp; Allay are <lb xml:id="l6"/>worth 21<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 6. In France by an Edict of May last a pistole (marked or not marked) passes <lb xml:id="l7"/>for 13 Livres or 3 <formula><math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mfrac><mn>14</mn><mn>17</mn></mfrac></math></formula> Ecus that is for 17<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">s</tei:hi>: 2<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">d</tei:hi> <tei:formula xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"><math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mfrac><mn>3</mn><mn>17</mn></mfrac></math></tei:formula>, reckoning an Ecu worth 4<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">s</tei:hi>: 6<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">d</tei:hi> according to the <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l8"/>reputed <tei:unclear xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" reason="hand" cert="high">par</tei:unclear> of Exchange. And so much may Pistoles be worth here if allowance be made <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l9"/>for the lightness of our Money by wearing.</p>
                
                <tei:p xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="indent5" xml:id="par4">About four years ago by the English putting too great a Value upon Scotch <tei:lb xml:id="l10"/>Money the Northern Borders of England were filled with that Money and Scotland with <tei:lb xml:id="l11"/>ours, the Scots makeing about Eight or nine per Cent profit by the Exchange until Your <tei:lb xml:id="l12"/>Lordships were pleased to put a Stop to the mischief. The Case being now the same (but of <tei:lb xml:id="l13"/>much greater Consequence) in the Course of Exchange bet<tei:del type="over"><tei:unclear reason="del" cert="low">ug</tei:unclear></tei:del><tei:add place="over" indicator="no">we</tei:add>en English Money &amp; Pistoles <tei:lb xml:id="l14"/>by the overvaluing of Pistoles to the Nations Loss. We thought it our Duty to represent it <tei:lb xml:id="l15"/>to Your Lordships in order to such a Remedy as Your Lordships shall think fitt.</tei:p>
                
                <tei:p xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="indent5" xml:id="par5">Wee presume also to lay before Your Lordships that the great Demand of Silver <tei:lb xml:id="l16"/>for Exportation in Trade has raised the Price of Bullion above that of silver monies 3<tei:hi rend="superscript">d</tei:hi> or 4<tei:hi rend="superscript">d</tei:hi> <tei:lb xml:id="l17"/>and Sometimes 6<tei:hi rend="superscript">d</tei:hi>. or 7<tei:hi rend="superscript">d</tei:hi> <tei:choice><tei:orig>ꝑ</tei:orig><tei:reg>per</tei:reg></tei:choice> ounce whereas monies ought to be of as great or greater value <tei:lb xml:id="l18"/>then Bullion by reason of the Workmanship &amp; certainty of the Standard And this high <tei:lb xml:id="l19"/>Price of Bullion has not only put an End to the Coinage of Silver but is a great Occasion <tei:lb xml:id="l20"/>of melting down and Exporting what has been already Coined</tei:p>
