                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par1"><hi rend="larger">To the Right Honourable the Lords <choice><abbr>Commiss<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi>:</abbr><expan>Commissioners</expan></choice> of His <choice><abbr>Maj<hi rend="superscript">tie's</hi></abbr><expan>Majestie's</expan></choice> Treasury.</hi></p>
                
                <p rend="center" xml:id="par2"><hi rend="large">The</hi> <hi rend="largest">Memorial</hi> <hi rend="large">of Charles Earl of Lauderdale General of the</hi> <hi rend="largest">Mint</hi> <lb xml:id="l1"/>in <hi rend="larger">Scotland.</hi></p>
                
                
                
                <p xml:id="par3"><space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="1"/><hi rend="larger">That</hi> by an Act of Parliament past in the first year of his Majesty's Reign Entituled <lb xml:id="l2"/>An Act to continue duties for Encouraging the Coinage of Money &amp;c<hi rend="superscript">a</hi>: It is enacted, to the <lb xml:id="l3"/>end the Importers of Gold and Silver into the Mints of England and Scotland <lb xml:id="l4"/>respectively may not be discouraged by any deficiency of the Revenue by the said <lb xml:id="l5"/>act settled for degrading the Coinage thereof, that it shall or may be lawfull to and <lb xml:id="l6"/>for the Commissioners of the Treasury for the time being &amp;c<hi rend="superscript">a</hi> out of the Moneys arising by the <lb xml:id="l7"/>said <hi rend="large">Act</hi> or out of any other supplies granted or to be granted by Parliament to <lb xml:id="l8"/>cause so much money to be applied as shall be necessary for defraying the Expences <lb xml:id="l9"/>of the Mints of England and Scotland respectively by way of imprest and upon <lb xml:id="l10"/><choice><abbr>Acco<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>:</abbr><expan>Account</expan></choice> for that Service, so as the same together with the Coinage Dutys arising by the <lb xml:id="l11"/>said <hi rend="large">Act</hi> do not exceed in any one Year the sum of Fifteen Thousand pounds, <lb xml:id="l12"/>And so as the said Moneys be issued out of the Exchequer of Great Britain <lb xml:id="l13"/>to the Master of the Mint in England and the General of the Mint in Scotland <lb xml:id="l14"/>respectively for the said purposes.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par4"><hi rend="larger">That</hi> by his Majestys Sign Manual bearing date the Seventeenth day of Novem<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>: <lb xml:id="l15"/>1718. <hi rend="large">(A</hi> Copy whereof is hereunto annex'd<hi rend="large">)</hi> Your Memorialist is Authoriz'd and <lb xml:id="l16"/>commanded out of such Moneys as are or shall be issued unto him out of the <lb xml:id="l17"/>Exchequer by the Commissioners of His Majestys Treasury for the time being and <lb xml:id="l18"/>by way of Imprest and upon <choice><abbr>Acco<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>:</abbr><expan>Account</expan></choice> for the Vse and Service of the said Mint <lb xml:id="l19"/>in Scotland to pay unto the Officers of the said Mint their Sallarys and all <lb xml:id="l20"/>charges of Coinage and of keeping the Offices of the Offices of the said Mint and the Coining <lb xml:id="l21"/>tools in repair and the Dwelling Houses of the Officers within the said Mint <lb xml:id="l22"/>Wind and Water tight. <hi rend="large">And</hi> in the like manner the Memorialist is thereby <lb xml:id="l23"/>Authoriz'd &amp; Commanded to cause his Majesty's Moneys of Gold and Silver to <lb xml:id="l24"/>be Coined in the said Mint of the same forms with his said Majestys moneys <lb xml:id="l25"/>Coined in England and with the same inscriptions and that the latter <hi rend="bold">E</hi> be <lb xml:id="l26"/>set under his Majestys Effigies to distinguish the Moneys Coined at Edinburgh <lb xml:id="l27"/>from those Coined at London, <hi rend="large">A</hi>nd that <hi rend="large">Your Memorialist</hi> and all the Officers <lb xml:id="l28"/>Moneyers &amp; Ministers of the said <hi rend="large">Mint</hi> do conform themselves in all things <lb xml:id="l29"/>to the Rules and Directions set down in the Indenture made between the <lb xml:id="l30"/>late Queen Anne &amp; <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn Montgomerie Esq<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Master of the said Mint <lb xml:id="l31"/>untill a New Indenture shall be made.</p>
                
                <fw type="catch" place="bottomRight">That</fw><pb xml:id="p094v" n="94v"/>
                
                <p xml:id="par5"><hi rend="large">That</hi> since the <hi rend="large">Y</hi>ear 1709. there has been no Coinage in the said Mint in <lb xml:id="l32"/>Scotland, and that the Want thereof has occasioned a scarcity of Coin in that part of the <lb xml:id="l33"/>Vnited Kingdom and is a great discouragement to the Importers of Bullion there <lb xml:id="l34"/>who have often made offer of Bullion to be Coined.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par6"><hi rend="large">That</hi> Your Memorialist by the aforesaid Sign Manual conceives himself <lb xml:id="l35"/>Warranted to <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="3"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">Cau</add>se <add place="supralinear" indicator="no">to</add> be Coined his Majestie's Moneys of Gold and Silver in the said <lb xml:id="l36"/>Mint, If a sufficient sum were imprest into his hands for defraying the Charges <lb xml:id="l37"/>thereof.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par7"><hi rend="larger">That</hi> the last sum issued was One Thousand four hundred and Seventy <lb xml:id="l38"/>pounds for paying the Sallarys of the Officers and repairing the Fabrick of the said <lb xml:id="l39"/>Mint for One Year &amp; a Quarter viz. from Christmas 1719 to Lady day 1721 a<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">s</add> may <lb xml:id="l40"/>appear by the Warrant bearing date the 22<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>anuary last.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par8"><hi rend="larger">That</hi> since that time there have been no Moneys Issued for payment <lb xml:id="l41"/>of the said Officers Sallarys, and for repairing and Vpholding the fabrick of the <lb xml:id="l42"/>said Mint and there is now due of that <hi rend="large"><choice><abbr>Acco<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>:</abbr><expan>Account</expan></choice></hi> two Years, viz<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>: From the said term <lb xml:id="l43"/>of Lady day 1721. to Lady day last 1723.</p>
                
                <p rend="right" xml:id="par9"><hi rend="larger">It</hi> is therefore humbly entreated That Your Lordships may Grant <lb xml:id="l44"/>a Warrant for Impresting into the hands of Your Memorialist <lb xml:id="l45"/>such a Sum as Your Lordships shall judge necessary for <lb xml:id="l46"/>defraying the Charges of a Coinage in the said Mint in <lb xml:id="l47"/>Scotland And also for the sum of Two Thousand One <lb xml:id="l48"/>hundred forty four pounds Eight shillings ten pence and <lb xml:id="l49"/>two thirds for paying the sallarys of the Officers and repairing <lb xml:id="l50"/>the Fabrick of the said Mint for the said Two Years <lb xml:id="l51"/>From Lady day 1721 to Lady day last 1723.</p>
