                <p xml:id="par1">By a Letter from M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Allardes dated 21<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> Iuly 1708, I am informed <lb xml:id="l1"/>that the Privy Council of Scotland, when my <choice><abbr>L<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Lord</expan></choice> High Treasurers Order <lb xml:id="l2"/>wa<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">s</add> laid before them by the <choice><abbr>Comm<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi></abbr><expan>Commissioners</expan></choice> of the Treasury there did <lb xml:id="l3"/>immediately make an Act for paying to the said M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Allardes <lb xml:id="l4"/>a penny per pound weight Troy for melting the money into Ingots <lb xml:id="l5"/>&amp; ordei<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">n</add>ed the <choice><abbr>Comm<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi></abbr><expan>Commissioners</expan></choice> of the Equivalent to pay the same out of <lb xml:id="l6"/>the Equivalent money conform to the Article of Vnion, &amp; that <lb xml:id="l7"/><choice><sic>accordinly</sic><corr>accordingly</corr></choice> the said Commissioners have given obedience &amp; paid M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <lb xml:id="l8"/>Allardes some few days ago for what is already melted. The old <lb xml:id="l9"/>money is the peoples untill it be melted into Ingots &amp; the Ingots be delivered <lb xml:id="l10"/>by the Agents of the <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">p</add>eople by weight &amp; assay to the Master of the <lb xml:id="l11"/>Mint to be coined, &amp; therefore all the charges of this melting are <del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">so</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">to</add> b<del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">y</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">e</add> <lb xml:id="l12"/>born by the people &amp; by consequence out of the Equivalent. For the <lb xml:id="l13"/>Act of Vnion appoints that the losses <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> the <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="3"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">peo</add>ple may sustein by the <lb xml:id="l14"/>recoinage of their money be born out of the Equivalent in the first pla<supplied reason="copy">ce</supplied></p>
