    <p xml:id="par2">About twenty &amp; five years since, M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Tho. Doyley was made <lb xml:id="l2"/>Clerk to <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>Sir</expan></choice> Anthony S<hi rend="superscript">t</hi> Leger Warden of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Mint &amp; soon <lb xml:id="l3"/>after began to act in prosecuting clippers &amp; f<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">al</add>sefiers of the <lb xml:id="l4"/>Kings coyn. The continued Clerk <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">t</add>en years, &amp; <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>Sir</expan></choice> Tho. <lb xml:id="l5"/>Wharton being made Warden (<choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> was about 16 years ago) took <lb xml:id="l6"/>Nath. Higginson for his Clerk, &amp; had about two years after <lb xml:id="l7"/>(when M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Macy b<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">e</add>came his Clerk) a Privy seal granted <lb xml:id="l8"/>for seizing tools &amp; materials made use of by Clippers &amp; Coyner<add place="infralinear" indicator="no">s</add> <lb xml:id="l9"/><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> proved ineffectual because the things were of no value. <lb xml:id="l10"/>A Quarter of a year after another Privy seal was there<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l11"/>fore granted for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> clippings &amp; clipt money &amp; perso<lb xml:id="l12"/>nal estate after conviction, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> last <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="3"/> instance</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">condition</add> pr<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">o</add>ved a <lb xml:id="l13"/>hindrance to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Warden f<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">r</add>om sei<del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">s</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">z</add>ing because they were more <lb xml:id="l14"/>acquitted then convicted &amp; for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> generality they were poor <lb xml:id="l15"/>people worth little or nothing. Whereupon <del type="strikethrough">(</del>after two renew<lb xml:id="l16"/>als of this Privy seal (viz<hi rend="superscript">t</hi> in the beginning of King <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames <lb xml:id="l17"/>&amp; King William's reigns) the matter being referred to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l18"/>Attorney General now <choice><abbr>L<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Lord</expan></choice> Keeper, he reported that the <lb xml:id="l19"/>words [after conviction] should be omitted &amp; a new Privy Seal <lb xml:id="l20"/>made to impower the Warden to receive clippings &amp;c where<lb xml:id="l21"/>ever found.</p>
