    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par4">May it please your <choice><abbr>Wor<hi rend="underline"><hi rend="superscript">pps.</hi></hi></abbr><expan>Worshipps</expan></choice></p>
    
    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par5">Vpon the Putting down (I believe by some order or <lb xml:id="l1"/>Command from the office of Ordnance) the house (which <lb xml:id="l2"/>m<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Edward Silvester deceased the Kings Smith lived <lb xml:id="l3"/>in and used, and since <choice><sic>tryeyed</sic><corr>tried</corr></choice> by M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn and M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Tho: <lb xml:id="l4"/>Silvester) between Monyers hall and m<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Halls house I <lb xml:id="l5"/>(haveing been have almost 27 years) make Gold to lay <lb xml:id="l6"/>before your <choice><abbr>Worpps</abbr><expan>Worshipps</expan></choice> That.</p>
    
    <p xml:id="par6">Vpon first coming hither, One Hodgkins a very <lb xml:id="l7"/>old man (who furnished the long <choice><abbr>Parliam<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Parliament</expan></choice> or Oliver <lb xml:id="l8"/>with Ammunition to carry on the warr by sea in <lb xml:id="l9"/>those dayues) was Smith to the Mint for Course and <lb xml:id="l10"/>ordinary worke and noe other, to my knowledge.</p>
    
    <p xml:id="par7">After I had been here some time how long I <lb xml:id="l11"/>cannot tell exactly This Hodgkins being Aged, past <lb xml:id="l12"/>his Labours and willing to be at Ease upon some <lb xml:id="l13"/>Consideration or other what particularly I doe not <lb xml:id="l14"/>remember it being soe long <del type="cancelled">s<gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del> since, made over <lb xml:id="l15"/>the same to the said Edward Silvester, In the <lb xml:id="l16"/>doing whereof <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames Hoare Esq<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Comptroller of the <lb xml:id="l17"/>said Mint since deceased the said Hodgkins Edward <lb xml:id="l18"/>Silvester before named and my selfe and noe other to <lb xml:id="l19"/>the best of my Remembrance were present, In the <lb xml:id="l20"/>transacting whereof the said Hodgkins and M<hi rend="superscript"><choice><orig><hi rend="underline">r</hi></orig><reg>r</reg></choice></hi> <lb xml:id="l21"/>Silvester earnestly capitulateing about the business <lb xml:id="l22"/>and speaking of the house aforesaid with the place <lb xml:id="l23"/>and office, the Comptroller Interposed, No sayes Hee <lb xml:id="l24"/>m<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Hodgkins, though, you have a Right to your <lb xml:id="l25"/>Place as Smith to the office of ordnance; you

    have noe Right to the house by vertue of your Offi<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">c</add>e <lb xml:id="l26"/>or that you are in it by any such vertue, For the house <lb xml:id="l27"/>is the Mint<choice><orig>'</orig><reg/></choice>s and the Right of the house in the Mint and <lb xml:id="l28"/>belongs properly and absolutely to the Mint, And if <lb xml:id="l29"/>you think M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Hodgkins to dispose of it upon that <choice><abbr>acco<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>account</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l30"/>and you Meaning M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Silvester to have it upon such an <lb xml:id="l31"/>Account, Hee shall not dispose of the house, Nor you <lb xml:id="l32"/>shall not have it or words which Imported as much.</p>
    
    <p xml:id="par8">Vpon which M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Hodgkins declined any Right to <lb xml:id="l33"/>the house by vertue of his office or place aforesaid, and <lb xml:id="l34"/>m<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Silvester that he came in upon any such account, <lb xml:id="l35"/>and then and at that time which <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">was</add> upon a Saturday the <lb xml:id="l36"/>Comptroller gave way that m<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Hodgkins should <lb xml:id="l37"/>dispose of his office or place of Smith to m<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Silvester and <lb xml:id="l38"/>that hee should have it, And not long after the said <lb xml:id="l39"/>M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Silvester came into the Place or office of Smith to <lb xml:id="l40"/>the office of Ordnance and <unclear reason="del" cert="low">he</unclear> excised it by himselfe or <lb xml:id="l41"/>Instruments and those under him to the time of his <lb xml:id="l42"/>Death, And the aforenamed m<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn and <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">left</add> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Thomas <lb xml:id="l43"/>Silvester in the Possession and enjoyment thereof at the <lb xml:id="l44"/><del type="strikethrough">p<gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> putting down of the same.</p>
