Mr Smiths information
Tite was Smith of yethe Ordnance & lived in Hodkins house & Hodkgkins succeeded him before the civil war began upon king Charles's coming from Scotland.
Martin lived in the little house at yethe end of yethe mill house wchwhich is now a little store house in yethe possession of Mr Silvester he was Smith of yethe Mint & was also succeeded by Hodgkins A. C. 1644
When Hodgkins came in wthwith a Patent old Capt. Sherburn said to who was then Clerk to yethe Ordnance said to the Surveyor of yethe Ordnance that he must deliver to Hodgkins possession of all, meaning of yethe house & shops
Mr Wm Pellet iron monger at the Mermaid at yethe lower end of St Dunstans Hill at yethe upper end of TowerThames street was at yethe making of yethe bargain between Mr Hodgkins & Mr Silvester.
Mr Hodgkins after yethehe sold his Smith of yethe Ordnances place continued Smith of yethe mMint till his death or at least for some years & Mr Smith was his partner & Mr Hodkins reserved a room inSilvesters house to lye oin & two fires in yethe upper shop to do yethe work of yethe Mint in, Mr Smith being then his partner And after his death Mr Silvester succeeded him. And Mr Smith believeds that Mr Hodgkins Silvester succededsucceeded in the Sallary of 10℔ per anannum. Mr Smith beleivesbelieves that Mr Hodgkins & Mr Silvester did yethe gross Smiths work. Mr Hodgkins made & hardned yethe stamps & yethe stakes but did not fourge yethe stamps but IJohnson was Diemaker till they began upon yethe milled money. And then IJohnson made & hardned yethe Dies. But Hodgkins had yethe Salary of 10℔ ꝑper anannum till his dying day & reserved it to himself when Mr Smith became his partner wchwhich was when Mr Silvester entered upon the place.
Mr Bateman Wheelewright to yethe Office of Ordnance rememberesd Tite his god father & is sure that Tite lived in the Silvesters house when Martin was Smith of yethe Mint & lived in yethe house at yethe end of yethe Mill room.
