This Indenture made the day of in the fourth year of the reign of oer Sovereign Lady AnnLord George by the Grace of God of Great Britaine France & Ireland King, Defender of the Faith &c and in the year of oer Lord 1717 between our said Soveraign Lord the Kings most excellent Maty.Majesty of the one part, & Sr Isaac Newton Knight, Master & Worker of his said Mats.Majestys Mint in the Tower of London of the other part, Witnesseth that our said Soveraign Lord the King dohath hereby authorised & the said Sr Isaac Newtongive & grant unto the said Sr Isaac Newton full power & authority to coyn half pence & farthings of fine British copper which when made red hot will spread thin under the hammer without cracking when made red hot. & to cutting aevery pound weight into twenty & three penceAverdupois of such copper into forty & six half pence or ninety & two farthings & & to coine any summ of such moneys not exceeing forty Tunns & that the whole quantity of such money doe not exceed the summ of 40 Tunns in any one yeare, and that there be not coyned above the summ of forty Tonns of such copper moneys in any one year, & that the said Sr Isaac Newton to doth intermitt the said coinage so often & for so long time asto to be coyned provided in any one year excepting at such times as this coynage shall be suspended by Order of the Lord High Treasurer or Lords CommsCommissioners of the TrearyTreasury now being or the Ld HLord High Treasurer or Lords CommsCommissioners of the TrearyTreasury for the time being, shall direct.✝ And to receive or take to himself out of the moneys so coined the summs of 3$\frac{1}{4}$d per lwt out of every pund weight so coined for the coinage thereof & to deliver the summs of the moneys so coyned or any part th or parts thereof to his Majesties people or any of them by weight at such prizes as the same upon the Assay sin weight shall be found to be worth allowing abating one pound sterling in every Tunn& seveven shillings & eight pence a penny in every seven pounds weight of such moneys for as a Remedy as a Remedy or as an allowance for accidentall errors in ascertaining the tale sixteen pence in every hundred weight, & so proportionally as an allowance for making good any deficien or recompence for such any deficiencies as may some times happen in stating & settling the price by the asssaay as a sufficient competent allowance & recompence for accidentalsuch small errors as may happen as may happen in the tale or price or tale. ascertained by the assay. And to procure & receive bars of copper of the fineness abeove mentioned & of such a size or thickness that the money made out of them may be of the weight above mentioned without erring in the pound weight above the fortith part of the whole weight in excess or defect.) & to pay for the same so much money by the pound weight or by the Ld H. TrearerLord High Treasurer for or Lds Commers of the TrearyLords Commissioners of the Treasury for the time being, & out of every pound weight of the moneys so coyned to receive f for coyning & putting off the same the Summ of three pence farthing

And his said Majesty doth further give & grant unto the said Sr Isaac Newton full power & authority to receive into the said Mint copper of in barrs of the fineness & size above mentioned paying for the same samem of eighteen pence per lwt for every pound weight or of 1 8 pounds for every Tunn of such copperafter the rate such rate by pound weight as the CommersCommissioners of of his Mats.Majestys TrearyTreasury now being or the Ld H. T or Commersof the TrearyLord High Treasurer or Commissioners of the Treasury for the time being shall approve of., the one half in money upon the receipt of such copper & the other half in scissel & money together upon the returning back of the scissel or wast, recconing the scissel at the same price by the pound weight with the copper imported, that is to say at 18d by the pound weight for every pound weight of scissel returned back. And or And that the Importer or Importers. And his said Maty.Majesty doth will & command the GoverourGovernour, Constable, Deputy Governour, & all other Officers & Ministers of the Tower, that the Importer or Importers of such copper in barrs have at all times free ingress & egress through the Gates of the Tower & Franchises thereof into & out of the said Mint without let molestation or arrest for debt or upon any other pretence whatsoever. And the said Sr Isaac Newton doth hereby covevenatcovenant grant & agree to & with his said Maty.Majesty that he will receive such copper in barrs of the allay & size above mentioned & coyn copper money out of the same according to the RUle above mentioned & cause the moneys cso coyned to be assayed in in weight & fineness & delivered by weight at the price to his Majts.Majestys people at the price setled by the assay according to the Rule above mentioned. And his Maj said Matys.Majestys dothdoth further ordein & will & appoint pleasure in that all receipts & deliveries with the weight & price, & all Assays uponby which the price is shall be setled be entred in two books by [two Clerks by the ione in behalf of the king & his people & th by a Clerk who may be called the Kings Clerk & by the in the other b in behalf of the M by the Clerk of the Mr & WrMaster & Worker, & that the Kings Clerk a Clerk who shall act in behalf of his said Maty.Majesty & his people & may be called the Kings Clerk, & theat the said Clerk do see all the Assays performed & the Copper & moneys & Sciffel weighed & do annually & one or more pieces taken out of every parcel of moneys assayed to be kept under his in a box under his key & the key of the Master & Worker to be tried annually in weight & fineness before whom the Lords CommersCommissioners of the Treasury for the time being shall appoint, & the said Clerk shall also make a controlment Roll upon oath of the weight & price of all the Copper imported monthly & of the weight & price of all the moneys coyned & delivered montly to thefrom time to time by the Moneyers to the Mr & Wr.Master & Worker with the price & shall be allowed per an̄annum per £wt for his se fo for his service. And 1 And the said MrMaster & Worker shall account annually before such person the Auditor of the Mint for all the said copper moneys coined & be answerable to his Maty.Majesty for all the profits thereof above all the charges. of the an 3ANd the Moneyers shall not vend deliver or dispose ofpay or distribute any of the said new money before the same be duely assayed & delivered to the said Master & WrWorker. ✝ ✝ 2 And the said Auditor shall have all the same power & authority for examining & allowing the said Accounts which he hath for allowing & examining & allowing the Accounts of the said Mr & WrMaster & Worker concerning the coinage of gold & silver. And the said kings Clerk shall examin a& sinegne all Bi workmens Bills of charges which shall for repairs of buildings & Offices & for providing things requisite for selling up this coinage . Ad his s And be allowed in his AcctsAccounts all summs of money paid & for repairs of buildings & cfor repairing & providing coining tools & other things for copper necessary for setting on foot this coinage & & 3$\frac{1}{4}$ per lwt of wasts provisions necessaries & changes coming arising & growing about in & about the assaying sweighing & coining & delivering thereofthe said copper & copper moneys & entring the receipts & delivies in books, after such a coinage shall be set on foot.by his own Clerk or Deputy. ⨳& all summs of money paid for copper imported & three pence farthing per lwt for coining the said moneys & for bearing & sustaining all manner of wasts provisions necessaries & charges coming arising & growing in & about the assaying weighing coining & delivering the said copper & copper moneys & entring the receipts & deliveries in his own booksthereof in books by his own Clerks.
