<p rend="indent10" xml:id="par2">The Southsea <choice><abbr>Comp<hi rend="superscript">y</hi></abbr><expan>Company</expan></choice> have lately <choice><abbr>rec.<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>received</expan></choice> from <lb xml:id="l1"/>their Agents in the West <choice><abbr>Ind.<hi rend="superscript">s</hi></abbr><expan>Indies</expan></choice> 6 or 7 parcels of Gold, <lb xml:id="l2"/><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> they intend to have Coyn'd: and accordingly have <lb xml:id="l3"/>imported 2 parcels, &amp; have part of a 3<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>. parcel now <lb xml:id="l4"/>in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Assay office, ready to be weigh'd.</p>
    
<p rend="indent10" xml:id="par3">Vpon a view of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>af.</abbr><expan>aforesaid</expan></choice> parcel I <choice><unclear reason="hand" cert="medium">inspected</unclear><unclear reason="hand" cert="low">suspected</unclear></choice> the <lb xml:id="l5"/>Gold —&amp; when all <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Ingots were assayd, I causd 4 <lb xml:id="l6"/>to be <choice><abbr>ret.<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>returned</expan></choice> to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Comp<hi rend="superscript">y</hi>.</abbr><expan>Company</expan></choice> to be refin'd. In a 2<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>. parcel <lb xml:id="l7"/>I found 7 <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> I <choice><unclear reason="hand" cert="medium">suspected</unclear><unclear reason="hand" cert="low">inspected</unclear></choice> to be of a bad mixture; <lb xml:id="l8"/>&amp; therefore orderd M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>. Whitaire to acquaint M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>. <lb xml:id="l9"/>Utbert, the <choice><abbr>Comp<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>.</abbr><expan>Companys</expan></choice> Agent, &amp; M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>. Blatchford, their <lb xml:id="l10"/>Refiner, that those 7 <choice><abbr>suspect.<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>suspected</expan></choice> Ingots should be <lb xml:id="l11"/>taken back &amp; refind, unles they wou'd indemnify <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l12"/>Office. They both gave M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>. Whitaire strong assurances <lb xml:id="l13"/>that there was no bad mixture in them, upon which <lb xml:id="l14"/>they were all taken in, before I had heard their answer. <lb xml:id="l15"/>Whereupon I caution'd M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>. Vanderesh not to sett them <lb xml:id="l16"/>out for melting, <choice><abbr>Intend.<hi rend="superscript">g</hi></abbr><expan>Intending</expan></choice> to apprize You of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Affaire,

A timely caution <lb xml:id="l18"/>being necessary to make us safe, for the future.</p>
    
    <p rend="indent10" xml:id="par4">I have taken all the Care I cou'd in examining <lb xml:id="l19"/>what has already been assayd, at <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Cutting, hammering, <lb xml:id="l20"/>sheering, appearance on the Copples, &amp; after nealing: but <lb xml:id="l21"/>because <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">s</hi></abbr><expan>this</expan></choice> may'nt be sufficient, I would further propose <lb xml:id="l22"/>that all the suspected Ingotts be broke in <choice><unclear reason="hand" cert="medium"><choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice></unclear><unclear reason="hand" cert="low"><choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>their</expan></choice></unclear></choice> presence, <lb xml:id="l23"/>the <choice><abbr>Comp<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>.</abbr><expan>Companys</expan></choice> Refiner &amp; Agent <choice><abbr>attend<hi rend="superscript">g</hi>.</abbr><expan>attending</expan></choice>, &amp; also <choice><unclear reason="hand" cert="low"><choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice></unclear><unclear reason="hand" cert="medium"><choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>their</expan></choice></unclear></choice> Melter, <lb xml:id="l24"/>when We may be better assur'd of the Nature of the <lb xml:id="l25"/>Mass by a careful <choice><abbr>inspect.<hi rend="superscript">n</hi></abbr><expan>inspection</expan></choice> of the breaches, than we <lb xml:id="l26"/>can be, by an Assay taken off at one Corner.</p>
    
<p rend="indent15" xml:id="par5">The <choice><abbr>Comp<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>.</abbr><expan>Companys</expan></choice> Agent &amp; Refiner prest <lb xml:id="l27"/>the admittance of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Gold now in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> assay office: but <lb xml:id="l28"/>I conceive it altogether reasonable that the office in <lb xml:id="l29"/><choice><abbr>gen<hi rend="superscript">l</hi>.</abbr><expan>general</expan></choice> &amp; the Matter in particular shoud be safe, &amp; <lb xml:id="l30"/>indemnifyd. Howeve the whole is submitted to Your <lb xml:id="l31"/><choice><abbr>considerat<hi rend="superscript">n</hi>.</abbr><expan>consideration</expan></choice> that this affair may be settled upon a <lb xml:id="l32"/>good foot to secure us for the future. If you please <lb xml:id="l33"/>to Appoint <add place="supralinear" indicator="no">to morrow being</add> Wensday, or thursday morning, I will attend <lb xml:id="l34"/>in my place</p>
