    <p rend="center" xml:id="par1">Some Amendments to the Coinage Bill. <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="2"/></p>
    
    <p xml:id="par2">By the Act of Vnion a Mint is to be continued in Scotland <lb xml:id="l1"/>under the same Rules as the Mint in England. And therefore all the Coinage <lb xml:id="l2"/>moneys for Scotland should be issued out of the Exchequer of great <lb xml:id="l3"/>Britain to the Master &amp; Worker (not to the General) for the use &amp; <lb xml:id="l4"/>service of that Mint in general terms &amp; applied, not by the Warrants <lb xml:id="l5"/>of the Treasury but by the Officers of the <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">M</add>int to particular uses, <lb xml:id="l6"/>those Officers taking care that no greater summ be applied to Salaries <lb xml:id="l7"/>Repairs of Buildings &amp; Incidents then the Coinage Act allows. For <lb xml:id="l8"/>this is the constitution of the Mint in England setled by the Coinage <lb xml:id="l9"/>Acts.</p>
    
    <p xml:id="par3">In the coinage Act of the 7<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> of the Queen, there is a Clause for <lb xml:id="l10"/>issuing from the Exchequer of great Britain any summ not exceeding <lb xml:id="l11"/>1200<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> to the Mint in Scotland for Salaries &amp; repai<del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">rs</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">r</add>ing that Mint. <lb xml:id="l12"/>Had this money been issued in g<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">r</add>enerall terms for the use &amp; service <lb xml:id="l13"/>of that Mint as it ought to have been by the Act of Vnion, it might <lb xml:id="l14"/>h<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">a</add>ve sufficed for <del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="high">d</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">D</add>efra<add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">y</add>ing all the charges of that Mint including <lb xml:id="l15"/>the coinage, as it did in the reign of King <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames II &amp; King William, <lb xml:id="l16"/>the whole charge in those days not exceeding 1200<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> sterling one <lb xml:id="l17"/>year wit<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">h</add> another. But they who drew up that clause have <lb xml:id="l18"/>restrained all this moneys to salaries repairs &amp; incidents of the Mint <lb xml:id="l19"/>without taking care of the coin<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">a</add>ge &amp; now come to the Parliament <lb xml:id="l20"/>for 500<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> ore out of the coinage Duty to carry on a coinage in <lb xml:id="l21"/>Scotland. And this the coinage moneys are taken away from the <lb xml:id="l22"/>Mint in England, &amp; the Officers of this Mint are forced to apply <lb xml:id="l23"/>to the Parliament for more moneys.</p>
    
    <p xml:id="par4">For preserving this Mint &amp; reducing the Mint in Scotland to <lb xml:id="l24"/>the same Rules, the following amendments to the coinage Bill <lb xml:id="l25"/>are here proposed.</p>
    
    <p xml:id="par5">Fol. 2. lin. 13 After the words [duly put in Execution] add <lb xml:id="l26"/>[with relation to the Mint or Mints in England]</p>
    
    <p xml:id="par6"><choice><abbr>Ib.</abbr><expan>Ibid</expan></choice> lin 16. After the words [of this present Act] add the clau<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l27"/>ses AA.</p>
    
    <p xml:id="par7">The first Amendment is for voiding or droppping the aforesaid <lb xml:id="l28"/>irregular clause in the coinage Act of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> 7<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> of the Queen. The <lb xml:id="l29"/>second is for setling the Mint in Scotland upon the same Rules as <lb xml:id="l30"/>the Mint in England as it ought to be by the Act of <del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">u</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">V</add>nion, &amp; in <lb xml:id="l31"/>such a manner that the two Mints may not interfere &amp; ob<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l32"/>struct one another.</p>
