                <p xml:id="par3"><add place="lineBeginning" indicator="no">3</add> All the business of Clerks will not amount to <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">more then three or</add> four good days <lb xml:id="l17"/>work in a year. <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; therefore they are <del type="strikethrough">not necessary</del> superfluous.</add> And when M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Dr<del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">u</add>mmonds place becomes void <lb xml:id="l18"/>there will be 50<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> <del type="strikethrough">per</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">more</add> <choice><abbr>p<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>per</expan></choice> an saved in the salaries. And upon these con<add place="lineBeginning inline" indicator="no">siderations I have proposed only 1000<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> to M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Lownds.</add></p>
                
                <p xml:id="par4"><add place="lineBeginning" indicator="no">2</add> + The Parliament of Scotland <del type="strikethrough">before the Vnion alow</del> in their <lb xml:id="l19"/>Coinage Act <del type="strikethrough"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">wa</unclear></del> allowed only 12000 pounds Scots upon this Article <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="3"/></del> <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l20"/>after the rate of 4<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> 6<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> to <del type="strikethrough">the 60 shillings pie</del> 3 pounds Scots amounts only <lb xml:id="l21"/>to 900<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> sterling.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par5"><add place="lineBeginning" indicator="no">4</add> I have it to you to offer what clau<del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">s</add>e you please for moneys not <lb xml:id="l22"/>exceeding <del type="strikethrough">what clause you please</del> <unclear reason="hand" cert="low"><del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">50</add></unclear><hi rend="superscript">li</hi> per an for prosecuting Coiners. <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="2"/></p>

                <p xml:id="par7">I have consulted the Copy of M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Montgomeries Indenture entred <lb xml:id="l23"/>in the <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">book of the</add> Treasury &amp; there are in it no salaries allowed for Clerks<del type="strikethrough">. <unclear reason="del" cert="low">all the</unclear></del> <lb xml:id="l24"/>except to the Kings Clerk. All the buisines of the other Clerks will not <lb xml:id="l25"/>amount to above three or four good days work in a year; &amp; therefore <lb xml:id="l26"/><del type="strikethrough">they</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">those Clerks</add> are superfluous. All the salaries in the Indenture amount only <lb xml:id="l27"/>to 980<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="words" extent="1"/></del>including M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Drummonds additional salary of 50<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> per <lb xml:id="l28"/>an &amp; the pension of the late Clerk of the Bullion of 50<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> per an, <lb xml:id="l29"/>both <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> are extraordinary &amp; annexed to their Persons, &amp; ought not to <lb xml:id="l30"/>affect the standing constitution of the Mint.                 <p xml:id="par8">The Parliament of Scotland in their Coinage Act made <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">about</add> thirty <lb xml:id="l38"/>years ago allowed only 12000 pounds Scots <del type="strikethrough">upon this Article</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">for Salaries repairs &amp; Incidents</add>, which <lb xml:id="l39"/>in those days amounted <del type="strikethrough">only</del> to about 900<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> Sterling recconing a 60 shillings <lb xml:id="l40"/>piece Scots at 4<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> 6<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> English, &amp; the coinage did not <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">then</add> amount to <del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">th</add>ree <lb xml:id="l41"/>hundred pounds <del type="strikethrough">per an</del> more per annum one year with another as I understand <lb xml:id="l42"/>by your discourse.                 <p xml:id="par9">I leave it to you to offer to the House what clause you think fit for <lb xml:id="l48"/>an allowance not exceeding 50<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> per an for bearing the charges of prose<lb xml:id="l49"/>cuting <del type="strikethrough">coyner</del>clippers &amp; coiners</p>

And in the margin <lb xml:id="l52"/>of the clause AA I have set down one thousand pounds to fill up the <lb xml:id="l53"/><del type="strikethrough">clause in <unclear reason="del" cert="low">t</unclear></del> blank in th<del type="over">is</del><add place="over" indicator="no">at</add> clause.</p>
