Fol. 24. The salaries of the three Cler last Clerks were given since the union dfor carrying on yethe recionage, & were not intended to be perpetual. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ib. The salary & Office of yethe Clerk of the Bullion is ceased. The Counterwarden is surveyor of the meltings by his Office & is so named in yethe Indenture of body of the Indenture, & there is no need of a new Weigher & Teller. If these salaries ab amounting to 170li be not withing my Lord's allowance, they this summ may be applied to defray the charges of melting refining & coining, & will suffice to coin about 70500li per an of silver moneys Otherwise there will be an Indenture to enable & require the Master to coin, & no moneys imprest to defray the Charges.

Fol 24 lin 8. The Office & salary of the Clerk of the Bullion is ceased & ought not to be named in the Schedule. If he would be Weigh Weigher & Teller he must get a Patent for the place. And then his Office wthwith the Salary mustay be inserted in yethe Schedule of this or the next Indenture. But it must be inserted in general terms wthwithout naming him.

Ib. l. 25. The Comptroller is Surveyor of the meltings by his place & is called by that name in the body of the Indenture. And the Master of yethe Mint Ib. l. 30, 31, 32. or his deputy receives & deleivers by weight tillt hre be another Weigher appointed

Ib. l 30, 31, 32. The three Clerks wthwith Salaries of 40li prer annannum were instituted since the Vnion for carrying on yethe recoinage & were not designed to be perpetal. And if they be continued the salaries of the Counterwarden & Queens Clerk ought to be augmented the first to 80li & the other to 50li or 60li that prper that they may be proportionat to yethe superior dignity & duty of their places.

NB. The Salaries in yethe Schedule shewn to yethe Attorney Gen amounted unto 880li wchwhich being deducted out of 1200li prper an leaves 320li per an to pay for the coinage & incidents according to the Attorneys report. In that schedule yethe Att Wardens Salary is set down 100li but a little before the coinage union it was augmented to 150li pr an. And so the Salaries at the Vnion amounttedamounted to 930li pr an, recconing a scotishscottish sous for a penny English wchwhich is 9 per cent too much. My Ld Treasurer think thinks that the salaries be continued as at the Vnion & has given directions for preparing a draught accordingly to be signed by the Queen. According to these directions the Schedule will stand thus

To yethe General 300li. To yethe Master 200l. To the Wa principal Warden 150li To the Counterwarden or Comptroller 60li. To the Assaymaster 100li. To the Sinker or Graver 50li. To the Queens Clerk & Clerk of yethe papers & cionscoins 40. To the aster Smith 30li.These being the salaries at yethe Vnion to be Continued by my Lords order & the Attorneys Gens report being grounded upon a supposition that the charges of coinage & incidents may be paid out of the surplus, I am of opinion that no more salaries be inserted into yethe schedule wthwithout my Lord Treasurer's order lead there be no money left to pay for the coinage, wchwhich would make the Indenture inconsistent wth it self.

NB By the Attorney GenGeneral's Report the charge of Coynage is to be paid out of the excess of salaries yethe 1200li above the salaries, & by my LdLord Treasurer's order a new Indenture is to be drawn in wchwhich the salaries are to be continued as at the union. And at yethe Vnion the salaries were as follows to yethe General 300l. To yethe Master 200li to the principal Warden 150li. To the Counterwarden or Comptroller 60li. To the AssaymrAssaymaster 100li. To the Sinker or Graver 50li. To the Queens Clerk & Clerk of the Papers & irons 40li to the master Smith 30li. These salaries amounting to 930li & the repairs of the buildings wchwhich will amount to about 80 or 90li per anannum being deducted from yethe 1200 per anannum leaves but 180 or 190li per annannum for defraying all the charges of coinage.
