In obedience to yoryour LordpsLordships order of reference of Nov. 12 1707yethe 12t instant upon the memorial hereunto annexed, we have considered the said Memorial & we are humbly of opinion that it is reasonable & agreable to yethe iIndenture of the Mints & at present necessary for yethe Master of her MajtsMajestys Mint at Edinborough to allay the silver molten with scotch coal in such manner & proportion as shall beare found appears to be by experience is found most effectual & exact for making the moneys of due standard fineness, provided the allay be put in not by conjecture or in an arbitrary manner but according to the Pot bill& to such rule or rules as shall beare grounded upon experience & the same being agreed also upon by the Officers of thaet Mints as most [effectual for that purpose without erring & most free from errooringerroring in fineness or coarsess unless by accident. For an error in fineness otherwise then by accident unless the money undeliverable the moneys Duly standard without erring in fineness unless by accirdent. For an error in fineness otherwise then by accident makes the moneys undeliverable And we since by experiments newly made in that [Mint the silver in melting is found to refine & lading out refines about three half penypenny wtweight in the proportion pound wtweight Troy by W or as is alleged in the memorial & in the last trial of the Pix the moneys coyned by their usualancient method have abided the trial of the Pix & the last trial proved standard full, & there is no time at present for making experiments to bring this matter to an exacter regulation, we are humbly of opinion that the terOfficers of the said Mint may still be allowed to use their same usuall ancient metohod, to use the same me of allaying the Pot for making the moneys standard in fineness untill the presentpresent recoynage of the moneys in Scotland shall be finished.
