    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2">May it please <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> Lordship <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="3"/></p>
    
    <p xml:id="par3"><hi rend="larger">I</hi><hi rend="large">t</hi> is a generall complaint that Farthigns and <lb xml:id="l2"/>halfe pence are wanted and it is discoursed that a <lb xml:id="l3"/>Pattent is grantted <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">to</add> make some I believe it a <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="3"/></del> <lb xml:id="l4"/>concerne worthy the notice of all true Brittish patriotts <lb xml:id="l5"/>to consider whether the makeing <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">a</add> small alteration in <lb xml:id="l6"/>that sort of coin will not be a very great advantage <lb xml:id="l7"/>to the Kingdom <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="3"/> The coin used for all small <lb xml:id="l8"/>payments under six pence is Copper farthings and <lb xml:id="l9"/>halfe pence and if a six pence be paid in all those <lb xml:id="l10"/>single farthings they must certanly be 24 in num<supplied reason="blot">ber</supplied> <lb xml:id="l11"/>and I believe generaly weigh about 4 ounces h<supplied reason="blot" cert="high">alf</supplied> <lb xml:id="l12"/>in the whole six pence <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="2"/> Lett the same quantity of <lb xml:id="l13"/>copper then be made into 25 Equall parts which now <lb xml:id="l14"/>goe (or is Currant) at six pence (and is divided into <lb xml:id="l15"/>24 farthings) And then a pound sterling with all its <lb xml:id="l16"/>lesser denominations of <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="6"/> shillings and <choice><orig>f<hi rend="overline">arth</hi>in<add place="supralinear" indicator="no"><unclear reason="hand" cert="medium">gs</unclear></add></orig><reg>farthings</reg></choice> <lb xml:id="l17"/>may be Express<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</orig><reg>ed</reg></choice> (joyntly with those lesser parts) by naturall <lb xml:id="l18"/>numbers without useing those different denominations <lb xml:id="l19"/>abovementioned and so Express<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">d</hi></orig><reg>ed</reg></choice> in naturall numbers <lb xml:id="l20"/>may be used without any Reduction in all the rules of <lb xml:id="l21"/>arithmetick wherein it shall be any ways concerned <lb xml:id="l22"/>with very great Ease and certanty</p>
    
    <p xml:id="par4">I presume almost all Europe make use of the <lb xml:id="l23"/>same Carrecters to Express number which are used <lb xml:id="l24"/>here in Brittain and I think there is noe materiall <lb xml:id="l25"/>difference abroad from the rules here given for <lb xml:id="l26"/>to learne the four first rules of Vulgar arithmetick &amp; <lb xml:id="l27"/>therefore a sett of naturall numbers not deno<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">m</add>i<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">n</add>ate<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">d</hi></orig><reg>d</reg></choice> <lb xml:id="l28"/>to signifie any thing but what those numbers naturally <lb xml:id="l29"/>express will be added or subtracted <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp;c</add> by a Brittain <lb xml:id="l30"/>or a Forreigner with Equall <choice><sic>eease</sic><corr>ease</corr></choice> and Certanty and such <lb xml:id="l31"/>naturall numbers will our Brittish pound and its <lb xml:id="l32"/>parts be best Express<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</orig><reg>ed</reg></choice> by if <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> six pence as above <lb xml:id="l33"/>be divi<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">d</add>ed into 25 Equall parts from whence its <lb xml:id="l34"/>plain<del type="strikethrough"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> that a Brittish account sent into any <lb xml:id="l35"/>Forreign part soe Express<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</orig><reg>ed</reg></choice> will be there as easie

        to be understood as here at home and therefore <lb xml:id="l36"/>our Brittish Coin may nay undoubtedly will <lb xml:id="l37"/>become the Standard of all European Coins and <lb xml:id="l38"/>Comerse <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="3"/> That small disturbance which a <lb xml:id="l39"/>this alteration would at first give your little <lb xml:id="l40"/>retail Tradesmen is not worth the notice for <lb xml:id="l41"/>how soon will they find ways to divide sixpenny <lb xml:id="l42"/>worth of their wares into 25 parts correspondent <lb xml:id="l43"/>to the abovemention<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">d</hi></orig><reg>ed</reg></choice> parts which shall be made <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="1"/></p>
