<p>Recommend £400 of this be divided equally between the moneyers, who now number twenty-one, until the number falls to sixteen, which is normally enough. No apprentices should be taken on in future without the master's approval, and if the number of moneyers should exceed sixteen again, only the sixteen most senior should receive the supplementary £25 p.a. each. On reverse, in the same hand: copy of Treasurer's authorisation, dated 19 November 1706.</p>

    <p xml:id="par3"><hi rend="large">In O</hi>bedience to your Lordships Order of Reference of the 2<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>: of <lb xml:id="l1"/>Aug<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>: last, upon the Petition of the Provost and the Rest of the Fellow Monyers, <lb xml:id="l2"/>wherein they lay before Your Lordship the substance of what we have formerly <lb xml:id="l3"/>Reported to your Lordship in relation to the poor Condition they are reduced <lb xml:id="l4"/>unto for want of Coynage, and Represent to Your Lordship, that upon their <lb xml:id="l5"/>Petition to the House of Commons, setting forth that the sallarys of the Mint <lb xml:id="l6"/>and Repairs of Buildings being restrained to £3000 <choice><orig>ꝑ</orig><reg>per</reg></choice> <choice><abbr>an<hi rend="overline">n</hi></abbr><expan>annum</expan></choice> they could <lb xml:id="l7"/>have no <choice><sic>Releif</sic><corr>Relief</corr></choice> outt of that sum in the Miserable Case they were in, that <lb xml:id="l8"/><choice><abbr>Hon<hi rend="superscript">ble</hi>.</abbr><expan>Honourable</expan></choice> House was thereupon Pleased to Order a Bill to be brought in to <lb xml:id="l9"/>Empower Your Lordship to dispose of £500 <choice><orig>ꝑ</orig><reg>per</reg></choice> <choice><abbr>An<hi rend="overline">n</hi></abbr><expan>Annum</expan></choice> more than the former <lb xml:id="l10"/>Act for Encouraging of Coynage had Granted, which Bill being Pass'd into an <lb xml:id="l11"/>Act, Your Petitioners Pray that the £500 <choice><orig>ꝑ</orig><reg>per</reg></choice> <choice><abbr>An<hi rend="overline">n</hi></abbr><expan>Annum</expan></choice> as above mentioned may <lb xml:id="l12"/>be paid to their Provost for their use</p>
    
    <p xml:id="par4">Wee humbly Certifye to Your Lordship that by the Indenture and <lb xml:id="l13"/>Constitution fo the Mint there is no Provisions made for <del type="strikethrough">the</del> sallarys to the <lb xml:id="l14"/>moneyers, butt only an Allowance <choice><orig>ꝑ</orig><reg>per</reg></choice> <choice><abbr><hi rend="overline">li</hi></abbr><expan>pound</expan></choice> weight for all the Gold &amp; Silver <lb xml:id="l15"/>Moneys they Coine; And Considering that th<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">e</add>y have been seven years <lb xml:id="l16"/>Apprentices to perfect themselves in the Art of Coining, Wee are therefore <lb xml:id="l17"/>humbly of Opinion that the sum of £400 <choice><orig>ꝑ</orig><reg>per</reg></choice> <choice><abbr>A<hi rend="overline">nn</hi></abbr><expan>Annum</expan></choice> may be allowed to your <lb xml:id="l18"/><choice><abbr>Pet<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>.<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>.</abbr><expan>Petitioners</expan></choice> (who and now One and Twenty in Number) to be Divided equally <lb xml:id="l19"/>amongst them, untill their Number be Reduc'd to sixteen, which Wee think <lb xml:id="l20"/>sufficient for carrying on the service of the Mint upon Extraordinary Occasions.</p>
    
    <p xml:id="par5"><hi rend="large">And</hi> Wee are further humbly of Opinion that for keeping the Fellow <lb xml:id="l21"/>Moneyers to this Number, your <choice><abbr>Pet<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>.<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>.</abbr><expan>Petitioners</expan></choice> be Obliged to take no Apprentices for the <lb xml:id="l22"/>future without the Approbation of the Master and Worker, and if at any <lb xml:id="l23"/>time they should happen to exceed the said Number, that then the said sallarys <lb xml:id="l24"/>of £25 <choice><orig>ꝑ</orig><reg>per</reg></choice> <choice><sic>peice</sic><corr>piece</corr></choice> <choice><orig>ꝑ</orig><reg>per</reg></choice> <choice><abbr>An<hi rend="overline">n</hi></abbr><expan>Annum</expan></choice> may Commence from Christmas last; the time <lb xml:id="l25"/>from which the above mentioned Act takes place, &amp; that the same be paid <lb xml:id="l26"/>to their Provost by Warrant Directed to the Master &amp; Worker for that <lb xml:id="l27"/>purpose.</p>

    <p xml:id="par9"><hi rend="large">After My</hi> Hearty Commenda<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">con</hi>s</orig><reg>tions</reg></choice>, I have Perus'd the <lb xml:id="l28"/>Report within written, And Do Approve thereof These are therefore <lb xml:id="l29"/>to Pray and Require You Out of such Moneys as are or shall be in <lb xml:id="l30"/>your hands of the Coinage Duty, to Pay unto the Provost of the <lb xml:id="l31"/>Mon<del type="strikethrough">e</del>yers of Her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majestys</expan></choice> Mint in the Tower of London for Himself and <lb xml:id="l32"/>the Rest of the said Moneyers the summ of Four Hundred pounds <lb xml:id="l33"/>Yearly by Quarterly payments the same to Commence from <choice><abbr>X<hi rend="overline">mas</hi></abbr><expan>Christmas</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l34"/>last past, and to Continue untill further Order.
