In obedience to yryour LdpsLordships orders of Reference of yethe 8sh & 10sh of August, wherein we are directed to consider yethe qualifications of Coll Parsons, mr Croker, mr Rose & mr Fowler to succeed Mr Harris in yethe place of Graver of yethe mint, we humbly represent to yryour LdpLordship

ytThat upon consideration of yethe great inconveniencys yethe mint lately suffer'd in yethe time of yethe Rotiers, who bred up no Gravers to succeed ymthem, & afterwards by mr Harris having yethe salary of Graver who was only a cutter of seals, yethe master worker of yethe mint did insert a clause in yethe Indenture made between yethe Crown & him, whereby yethe Gravers salary should cease upon yethe next voidance of yethe place, in order to a new setlemtsetlement

It is therefore humbly proposd, ytthat there should be a set of gravers brought up in yethe mint in yethe same manner of graving, for yethe security of yethe coinage agstagainst counterfeiting, & to propagate is to probationrsers or apprentices, who may succeed yethe for wchwhich end we humbly propose, ytthat mr Croker one of yethe peticonrspetitioners who has been many years employd in yethe wthwith an allowance of 150li ꝑper anannumat 150li ꝑper anannum & is a very good Graver, be now made first Graver of yethe mint wthwith a salary of 200li a year for himself & a servtservant to file & polish dyes, & turn yethe press, & have also ytthat part of yethe Gravers house in wchwhich he now lives, that mr samuell Bull who has been some years a probationrer in yethe mint at 60li ꝑper an.annum be made 2d Gravers wthwith a salary of 80li a year, & have yethe other part of yethe Gravers house And ytthat a new probationrer wthwith a competent salary be taken into yethe 3d place as soon as a fit person be found, & be allowd two rooms to lodge & work in over yethe great press room & mr Crokers shop. The Peticonrs.Petitioners Coll Parsons & mr Fowler do not work grave ymthemselves & therefore we believe ymthem not so well qualifyd for yethe place

We further represent to yryour LdpLordship yryour mr Harris as Gravers of yethe mint had also a patent to coin medalls, wchwhich we think too great a trust to be lodgd in yethe Gravers, & are humbly of opinion, ytthat hereafter no medalls be made in yethe mint without an order from her matiemajestie or yethe Ld High Treasurr to yethe master worker of && ytthat yethe species of wchwhich yethe Graver shall receive for such medalls be setld by yethe warden master worker & Comptrollr in yethe same manner as is done for coronation meddalls or any other manner as yryour LdpLordship shall think fit

Mr Harris had also a patent for Graver of seals to her matiemajestie, wchwhich is an office independant from yethe mint, for wchwhich mr Rose has petictiond yryour LdpLordship, & by a seale wchwhich he has lately gravd for yethe Dutchy of Lancaster we believe him very well qualifyd for it.
