<p xml:id="par1">About 2 years &amp; an half ago M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Harris meeting <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Croker <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">a Jeweller</add> &amp; finding <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l1"/>he could emboss desired him to practise engraving &amp; for his <choice><abbr>encouragem<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>encouragement</expan></choice> promis<lb xml:id="l2"/>ed him that as soon as he could grave well enough for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> service of the <lb xml:id="l3"/>Mint he should have <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">a place &amp;</add> an house in the mint &amp; an hundred pounds per ann <lb xml:id="l4"/>for his service there &amp; thereupon M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Croker left his <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">own</add> imployment &amp; <lb xml:id="l5"/>practised graving &amp; supported himself at his own charge except that he <lb xml:id="l6"/>received of M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Harris by severall little parcells during the first two <lb xml:id="l7"/>years untill the displacing of M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Roettiers about 80<hi rend="superscript">℔</hi>. And since <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l8"/>displacing of M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Roettiers he hath received 26<hi rend="superscript">℔</hi> <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice>out any lodgings or <lb xml:id="l9"/>further encouragement. And about whitsonday was a twelvemonth When M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <lb xml:id="l10"/>Harris took M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Fitches house to work in, he promised M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Croker that <lb xml:id="l11"/>he should have M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Roettiers Salary<add place="inline" indicator="no">.</add> <del type="cancelled">of 175<hi rend="superscript">℔</hi> per ann</del> And about 3 <lb xml:id="l12"/>months ago when<add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del></add> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Croker complained to M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Harris that he <lb xml:id="l13"/>had no encouragement to go on &amp; prest M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Harris for a settlement <lb xml:id="l14"/><add place="lineBeginning supralinear" indicator="yes">saying that he could not otherwise work a stroke more</add> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Harris replied that he had promised him an hundred pounds a year &amp; <lb xml:id="l15"/>that if he would go off he might when he pleased. And <del type="cancelled">that</del> on thurs<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l16"/>day was a senight <supplied reason="blotDel">M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></supplied> Croker presenting M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Harris <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> a paper <lb xml:id="l17"/>wherein he represented to him that he had promised him M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Roetti<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l18"/>er's Salary &amp; a house <del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="medium">&amp; sho</unclear></del> for graving for the coyn besides <lb xml:id="l19"/>what he did for <del type="cancelled"><choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice></del> medalls <del type="blockStrikethrough">[<del type="strikethrough"><unclear reason="del" cert="medium">&amp;</unclear></del> <hi rend="superscript">‡</hi> that he was ordered to grave <lb xml:id="l20"/><add place="lineBeginning supralinear" indicator="yes">new</add> puncheons for a five ℔ piece &amp; double Guinea &amp; for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> small money <lb xml:id="l21"/>but had no encouragement]</del> &amp; desired a settlement to depend upon. <lb xml:id="l22"/>To <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Harr<del type="over">e</del><add place="over" indicator="no">i</add>s (<choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice>out reading the paper) answered <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">in general</add> that he would <lb xml:id="l23"/>make a settlement but 3 or 4 days after when M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Croker <lb xml:id="l24"/>spake to him again about it <add place="lineBeginning supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; told him that he was ordered to grave...but had no <choice><abbr>encouragem<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>encouragement</expan></choice></add> he replied that he would do no<lb xml:id="l25"/>thing till he was in the other house &amp; then he would make <lb xml:id="l26"/>a settlement.</p>
    
<p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2">NB. M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Harris cannot emboss nor punch, nor draw. All <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> assistance M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Croker <lb xml:id="l27"/>had from him was <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">to be</add> told of <choice><abbr>wt</abbr><expan>what</expan></choice> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Harris thought was faulty <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">&amp;</add> to be supplied <lb xml:id="l28"/><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> pieces of M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Roettiers &amp; others to copy after.</p>
